Newbie Guide to Download/Installation

Sequential Steps for Download/Installation.

Step 1. Download the Installation File.

Go to the download page
Find the hot link for the file you want.
Click on the hot link.
A window will come up with instructions on where and how to save the file to your computer. *** PAY ATTENTION TO THE DIRECTORY YOU PUT THE FILE IN **
A download progress window will come up and show you the progress of your download. When it is done you can proceed to the next step.

These steps will grab a copy of the file from the internet and put it onto your computer.

Step 2. Find the Installation File.
In order to install a file you must be able to find the installation program. One would think that this would be the simplest part of installation. But after forgetting which directory folder you stuffed a download into you won't be so glib about "finding the file." More of us than may care to admit to it have done a lengthy download only to discover "we lost it" when it came time to install.
An equally obvious but overlooked problem in program installation is: "Downloading a program does not install it." You must activate the installation program separately and run it yourself after finding it on your computer.

Step 3. Open the Installation File in WinZip
WinZip is not the only program which will work with .zip files. We just find it one of the easiest and we don't mind the company. So we use it. You use whatever you need. If you use another compression program refer to their documentation for instructions.
To open a file in WinZip either open WinZip and use the File:Open menu option. Or, find the file you want to use for installation in Windows Explorer and double-click on the file. This will automatically open the file in WinZip (or its equivalent).

Step 4. Install the program through WinZip.
One of the fun things about WinZip is that you don't have to decompress the files onto your harddrive before installing. You can run the installation from within WinZip. Just click on the "Install" button and follow instructions.

Step 5. Run the Program.
The last, but all important step, is actually running the program.
You will find an icon on your desktop for the program. If you'd rather not have the icon on your desktop just delete it. There will also be one in your Start:Programs Menu.
