Coffee (dribble) Cup

With this program it's hard to tell who the joke is on. But rest assured it's the user with a mess in their laps.

Just today the good folks at Coffee Cup sent a message letting me know they had a Free download of their great and wonderful new image view-o-matic. It slices, it dices, it even makes julian potatoes. It does it all.

Being a good little reviewer I started the download. However, on the way to the download page I noticed a "Note:" on their page. It should have read "Warning:". That "Note" was as following:

Note: This program will associate .GIF, .JPG, .BMP, and other popular image file formats for viewing. Please visit our Help Site for more info.

Well, three or four clicks later (no direct link apparently they don't want to scare you too too much with easy access to the bad news) I arrive at the FAQ for the Coffee Cup Viewer. Fifty percent of the FAQ is devoted to a major problem they are about to inflict upon your computer.

How do I change my file associations back to their original programs?
I've already uninstalled Viewer Plus. How do I re-associate my files now?

Here is what I wrote back to their company:

I won't be installing this software and I may not install any software from your company ever.......
Let me tell you why: I don't like the fact that you associate gif, jpg, etc. without asking. Most friendly programs have a pop-up window during installation asking permission to associate programs. Apparently you don't. In fact apparently it has become such a problem for you that you are now putting big warnings on the download page and that is about the only thing covered in the FAQ.
Get a clue and rewrite the install.
Meanwhile I have lost trust in your company.

Why they have not rewritten the software is beyond me. There are enough people complaining that they now put a warning on the download page.

I for one am tired of the gross arrogance of company that decide to re-assign my file associations to steal them away from current programs to theirs. This is arrogant, pushy, and more than a little discourteous. It is just down-right not nice and I wish companies would stop it.

Unfortunately this is another one of those "customer-beware" type of deals.

Even though many others might share our opinions and even if the opinions originated from others at this point we are taking responsibility for our opinions. And they are just that -- our opinions.
