wanna go back to win98

i have a gateway and i upgraded to winxp it kept giving me so many problems, so i snaped one day and tryed to uninstall it. now i cant get my computer back to win98. my aunt says something about and fdisk that i have to get. i dotn know what to do im stuck on dos, and i used my gateway restore disk and i tryed to reinstall win98 but it gets so far and tells me to insert the windows cd but then it just never reads the disk it says i dont have a disk in my rom drive, i dont know much about computers and i know this makes no sence but if anyone can help me id be very happy thanks

first thing to do, is to get any files off your hard drive you need, probably to a floppy.. this can be done in dos by typing
copy C:\dir\file.*** A:\
an example could be
copy C:\mydocu~1\homework.txt A:
once that is done, format your hard drive by typing
format C:
you may have to do this from a restore floppy, which the 98 should have came with one... once the format is complete, type X:\setup.exe where X is the letter of your cdrom drive (usually D)...
