Tried to reinstall my printer w/the disc and nothing came up. Noticed, too, that I can't play music cd's either. I can hear a sound when I put a disc in but nothing comes up.
I have WIN 98 SE. Thanks for your help.

sounds like your auto run is turned off if I understand 'nothing came up' properly.
.Right-click on the My Computer icon and select Properties.
.Choose the Device Manager tab.
.Open the CD-ROM branch, and select the entry for your CD-ROM drive.
Click Properties, and then choose the Settings tab.
Turn on the Auto insert notification option.
Click OK, and then OK again. You'll have to restart Windows for this change to take effect

Hi Ed,
Thanks but I checked and the Auto insert notification was already on. I've been trying to solve this *&*^ problem for a week now. Any other thoughts...I mean other than MY next one, which is to toss Win 98SE out the window-haha.

Have you tried running syatem file checker?
If not click start/run and type sfc press OK and you will be prompted re changed deleted, currupt files.
I wouldnt rule out virus, worm or spyware either.
Can you access any cd through explorer or 'my computer' when inserted?

Oh and when you right click 'my computer' and choose properties under the device manager are there any yellow checkmarks?
During the bootup sequence are the cd rom(s) detected, any multiple beeps or just the one post beep. Any failed or bad commands while booting up?
Does your printer work?
If not, go to control panel and add printer, go thru steps and get driver from disc to see if it can read from the cd.
