Help on 'download receiver' spyware

I just received a pop-up warning me that 'spyware called download receiver' has been detected on my computer. When I clicked 'ok', I get a sales pitch to buy spyware remover for 29.99 (free trial for 90 days). My question is how do I check if some sort of spyware has been installed on my computer? Thank you for helping me on this.

You can also download Spybot Search and destroy and once it is installed, update it and run a scan. It is freeware.
