My computer (WinXp, 700Mhz, 192mb Ram, 32mb NVIDIA GeForce2 MX 100/200), has been having a Kernel Stack Inpage Error. Ihave reinstalled XP but, it keeps happening. How can I fix this problem.

I found this in Jonathan Sturm's newsletter:

"Running the Seagate diagnostic tool confirmed a dying hard disk. While this was the cause of my KERNEL-STACK-INPAGE-ERROR, it may not be the cause of Peter Collier's, who wrote to me, or those finding my web pages through the search engines using the same search string. I imagine dodgy RAM could also cause the same fault."

I've had this problem for a few days, at it stopped once I moved my two disks apart because they got blazing hot, both of them. Now they just get cozy warm...

I have a Gateway Solo 3300 laptop, and I've been getting this error since the first hot days this July. I was initially blaming faulty RAM, or an overheating hard drive, because this error has only been happening outdoors or in a non-air-conditioned room. Can anybody recommend a solution to this problem? Moving the hard drive apart is obviously not an option because of a laptops technical nature. I currently have no other possible solution though. Thanks in advance.

I installed Norton System Works 2004 and it did not installed completely. I went to regedit and all the stuff that contained the words "symantec". Then NSW installed correctly but after that i've been getting this "Kernel Stack Error". When I tried to re-install Windods (XP -> 2k) the hard drive went formatting up to 69% and then stuck so i used aprtion magic to format it.
Now that I have Win2k i still getting that error. Can some help we out with that?

yury_usa.
i suggest you try zero driving your harddrive.
try testing with your harddrive manufacturer's disk utility program.

If you get SMART errors on bootup, it's a safe bet that your hard disk is failing. SMART is a low level program in the hard disk's firmware that attempts to work around physical failures on the hard disk by mapping a failing sector to a spare part of the disk...

Make sure you also scan for boot sector virus.

My Dell Inspiron 8200 w/ XP Pro has been getting SEVERAL Stop 0x0077 KERNEL_STACK_INPAGE_ERROR ,messages a day for almost a MONTH sometimes its the full blue screen of death, sometimes its a small blue window on a blank black screen, either way it wont stop.

i called dell and they assure me its a microsoft problem, microsoft says its a virus, and symantec says i have no viruses/viri

i have reinstalled my system more times than i care to remember and it wont stop.

also, once i turn my computer off, i still appear to be connected to AIM, despite not being signed on in any seperate locations.

Same here
Well, I am having the same problem too, with my Dell dimension. It is worst when I try to back up and read the complete drive, and I can't ghost or back up properly. Some times I can't even boot up without a disk error or operating system error being displayed.
My HDD makes the strange noises others have described, and even though the Dell diagnostics seem to run OK, I am quite sure my Hard drive has or is about to fail.
I think replacing the hard drive is probably the only option or all of us, but you must ask what causes this in the first place. I think the dell case is not the best for cooling, and I notice that many of you have laptops, which could also be a problem. With big modern hard drives going into PC's I suspect that the cooling is not adequate, and maybe causing the failure. I suggest ugrading your power supply for one with more cooling capability for desk top users - lap top users I guess you are a bit bugg'r'd, unless you down grade the HDD.
Any other help or advise would be appreciated.

Can this error be caused by a too-weak power supply?

I'm getting this error also on my new Dell system. The harddrive failed after two weeks and was replaced, now 10 days later I am again having harddrive problems. I think Dell has a problem.

I'm certain its a virus, because I have two computers and both of them started to act this way (buzzing hard disk, blue stack error screen) - at around the same time this month. Also it seemed to start happening after I started using Shareaza on both machines.
Now one of them is virtually dead, and the other shuts down at any time.

I have a Dell and I am having the same problem as all of you. This just started recently. I have a new HD and also new RAM. I'm going to sue the company that sold me the parts.. NOT, just teasing.. I wish it was that simple. τΏτ

My HD makes funny sounds too. I'm going to try different RAM, different HD and better power supply...

And if none of that works, I'm going to find me a rich man that can just buy me a new pc.. heehee
