What it says is "An I/O Error has occured while installing a file.." And then it closes. This has happened with Counter-Strike and Wolfenstein. They get to around 86% and fail. I tried to load the SAME file on another computer, and it worked.

Somebody please help Me!
Ill appreciate it.

Matt, it is probably a bad CD drive. MS has this to say about I/O errors:

External devices are sometimes subject to unanticipated errors. This error has the following cause and solution:

An input or output error occurred while your program was using a device such as a printer or disk drive.
Make sure the device is operating properly, and then retry the operation.

Or it could be bad ram or: This error usually occurs when there is another program running in the background when the installation is attempted. The error makes it appear that the problem is a bad CD, but that is rarely the problem

ok i know i said a lot of solutions and now i really got the solution , i dont think its a software prob. it must be the hardware ,ok first the RAM i thought it was the RAM cause i've changed it and it worked perfectly but just for 2 days the i got the --ing prob again and then i reminded that I had no problems with my old P3 600 and now since 1 year i have the AMD 1,2 Ghz and now i have the probs ,i'm not sure but i think its the CPU try to change the cpu with a friend and plz tell me if the CPU is the Troublemaker i think it will make the probleme go away

Yeah i think the problem could be the AMD CPUs , I'v got the same problem and havn't found any solutions and my CPU is the AMD Athlon 1.4 Ghz , most of the poeple affected by this error also have AMD's...

I have an AMD 1.2 chip and successfully installed Wolfenstein once. Then came time to refresh the computer so I reformatted and that fixed my complaints with crashing etc. But then came the problem! Wolfenstein all of a sudden wouldn't install giving i/o error every time I try and I can't play it anymore!

I can't safe mode install, since it gets a bit of the way through and "can't read from the device". The cd rom works fine for everything else. But it did do it once upon a time so there is no consistency with the AMD theory. Any other ideas?

I even made it the first install after reformating!

I/O errors can be caused by several things , Could be teh CPU but ive used AMD for 6 years now never had one bit of problem. besides the point Check IDE cables , Ram, any I/O Devices, Keyboards and mouses and such, Ive been seeing so many cases like this but frankly it being the cpu would cause so many problems such as PCI cards Not responding and other hardware not to mention Bios Caughting it. my friend had the same problem well he bought the comp to my house gave me new mouse and keyboard and such worked fine U need to realize a I/O device is somthing that give input or Output to your computer and CPU just processes it

This is a catch all report. As said above it would appear to identify bad media but it is also an install error in 2000. For about 3 months I have not been able to install anything (with 1 or 2 exceptions). The media is good and the CDrom is good. The same media will work on my other computers.

Any Ideas ?

Please tell you me you tried an uninstall and reinstall. Usually you get those types of errors with hacked games or copied cd's...

and the kazaa problem is problably cause you deleted the adware it installs, so you'll have to go to control panel and add remove programs and get ride of it, and then find diet kazaa lite, no adware or spy ware.
