Mild HTML confusion

I am currently in the process of creating my own website, and although I have referred to help with some elements of the site from this site's HTML guide, I couldn't find any mention of my specific problem.
I want to put a poll on my website, and I have the code to do so. I want to put the poll on the right-hand side of the screen, but with text directly adjacent to it on the left. Every time I try and come up with something, the poll takes up its own line, rather than sitting alongside the text. Could anyone help at all?
