just lately my computer switches itself of completely as if I have had a power cut. When I switch it back on it does not go through scan disc, it is as if you have switched on. This may happen two or three times in a night and may not happen again for days or even weeks the bang of it goes again. Doesn't seem to be any pattern to it. New memory fitted and new power pack still happens. Heelp.

I have these probs a while go too.
It maybe that you have a trojan of your computer.
You must install adware 6.0 you can download it on www.download.com.
If this not help find an trojan scanner on the web
A trojan is a file that is become on your computer a other person can access it
If these things are ok than you can see in your rom bios settings if they are ok
It could be that your cpu frequency isn't right.

My computer switches itself off for no reason too. Sometimes it will scan disk and sometimes it won't. When it goes off, I can only get it back on by disconnecting the power supply.
It would be a help if someone could tell me what a trojan is? Please tell me in plain language as I am not that computer literate!

You may have a power supply going bad. If you do not have the worm that is going around and affecting XP computers, please have your power supply checked out before you cause other damage. Terri

It's also possible that your ram is going bad or already bad..If you have access to another computer, you can check it by installing the ram in the other computer
