Definitley does not sound like a videocard problem. the root of the problem lies in the file you downloaded itself, or in XP. Sounds very much like you have a virus... some viruses will infect a freshly download file and you will get that message or something similiar. I would update your virus definitions, or try a different online scan, such as the free one from trendmicro. If you have reformatted and reintalled XP, it could be that when you chose to reformat, you did not re-partition your drive (delete partition, then creat partition). You should do this when you reformat so that you get a clean MBR (master boot record). If the virus is in your MBR, you may been missing it when you reformat (rare cases). I can tell you that if this is one of the only errors you ever get on you computer, there is a very good chance it is not hardware related. If it was hardware related, you would have many more errors, and they would occur at other times, not just when you are trying to execute a file. I hope this helps.. It's always tough to diagnose a problem without sitting in front of the computer.

Chris,
many thanks for the advice, have tried fdiskíng b4 formatting tried 2 different hard drives also, new 80gb barracuda and 40gb quantum. I have Norton Antivirus 2003 up to date as of yesterday. I do also get other errors intermittently, like the random restart.
I will try the online virus scan you recommended, and post results later.

I solved this exact problem by replacing my RAM. I ran Memtest86 and found > 1000 errors.
With a new DIMM I found 12 errors, and the
problem went away.

Had the same pbl.
- pbl with downloads (same error message)
- random restart (perhaps due to ASUS CPU Overheating Protection)
And nothing found on the net to solve that...
Tried RAM test without any pbl.
Change Harddrive.
Still not working !
If now you have a clue ... thanks
