On starting computer The Mcafee icon on the task bar turns black and I have to wait for it to turn red before I can do anything else.
How can I fix this?

reinstall macafee there is an option to repair installation may speed it up. However if you have windows98 macafe has a patch to fix problems associated with this combination.
