Problems with DL

Hi, I'm using Windows 95, with IE 5.50 w/ service pack 2 which is the newest version of Explorer I can run on Windows 95, and I'm having problems downloading in a variety of areas. What happens is I'll click a download button, and instead of moving with the download, I get a white page with a small box in the upper left corner that contains a red square, a green circle, and a blue triangle within it. This occurs repeatedly at various sites. For example, If I go to Microsoft and try to download the latest security patch, I get the problem I described. Also, my son wanted me to download AOL Instant Messenger and I got the same problem. Those two are what I remember off the top of my head, but there have been others. I've tried shutting down my firewall (in fact I've tried closing everything except Explorer and Systray) to no avail. I originally thought it might be a Win 95 vs. 98 problem, but if that was the case I shouldn't be having problems downloading the microsoft stuff. Plus the version of AIM I was trying to dl was an older version which they keep around specifically for Windows 95 users. Any ideas? I appreciate any help.

Try using Opera from opera.com

Sounds to me like it's an MSIE problem not a 95 problem.

Thanks, Frank. I had someone else suggest Opera too, I'll check it out. I did find a solution (or I should say, someone gave me a solution) for anyone else who may have the problem. If you right click on the link that you want to download from, then click "Save Target As", then you can just choose the directory you want to dl to with no problems. Thanks again Frank.

I had the same problem.
Did you download Quicktime?
I took a solution from Rick Selby's page to whom I am very thankful :
>Can't download anything from the internet:
>Go to Start
>Run
>Type
>regedit
>when the regedit window opens
>Navigate to this key:
>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet >Explorer\ Plugins\Extension
>Be careful here, there might be a key named >Extension(s), do not get the two confused.
>Right click on Extension and choose delete >from the menu
Good luck - just let us know if this helps!
P.S.: clicking with the right button, before getting to the icon with the red square also helped, but not always, I think.
