Shuttle AK32 with Duron 1.3 (eh-works).

128mb installed but Win98SE only reports 56.0MB

Will report less memory, but nothing more. Other memory managers report the same. Bleeh.

Anyone else with pschizoid probs on Shuttle boards? Just flashed bios with no change.

Are you sure your a newbie? Flashing a BIOS is no job for an amateur! If it all worked out ok, congratulations. How many RAM slots do you have? Are they all full? Do you have the highest individual stick in the No. 1 slot? Are you mixing types of RAM? (eg DRAM with SRAM or any other combination)? Are the contacts clean and dry? Have you blown out out the slots with compressed air? Just a few things to consider, since you've had no other replies!

No Tony,

I'm not a newbie, except to this posting board. It's tough to find concerned comments related to Windows and PC problems, but this is one of the best. Thanks for your comments.

I SOLVED THE PROBLEM! Turns out my HIMEM.sys (the hi-memory manager for DOS) was causing the hiccup. I used 'editsys' at the RUN line to 'REM' out the lines (placed a remark - rem in front of all the lines).

As you may or may not know Win95 and above controls allocation of both physical and virtual memory, so the HIMEM manager is bogus and needs to be chucked. Hope this post helps someone else out.

Wheee.. a 25 year PC veteran. Newbie at heart.
