Is there a way i can see if this computer has a firewall installed? What do i look for?Someone told me the reason i cannot see some web images on webpages(like P0G0 and some other game sites) is because there may be a firewall and i would have to adjust the settings. I don't even know what to look for. Can someone help?
Thanks!

re opics your connection could be faster than the web page server is refreshing thepage can display missing pics. Also havingtemp int files full causes pics not to display- in your browser click tools and choose internet options and empty temp files lower the number of days cookies/temp files are kept.
As far as the firewall if you dontget warnings thatsuch and such program is trying to connect or send packets thenyou dont have a firewall properly configured or installed at all. look in your virus scaner directorylook for programs you dont recognise and read the help files to see if they are fireall programs. The most common are 'tiny firewall' and 'zone alarm'

A lot of websites do not like firewalls and want you to turn it off before viewing anything on their servers. Although most dont tell you that but that is whats happening in simple terms. You can usually see if you have a firewall running on your system tray or programs. Most common firewall programs are Norton, Mcaffee, Zone-alarm, etc. After finding it check the settings to see how high you have it set. One thing you need to know and just deal with is that no matter what you do with your firewall, some sites will not be viewable no matter what except having knowledge in surfing with unix and stuff like that as I do sometimes.

If a website insists I lower my firewall and reduce my security, I say "I don't need to view their site."
What are they doing that requires I remove a firewall?
Probably they are just being lazy and using some technique that is simple but requires a lowered firewall. In any case, I don't feel a need to view sites which require I reduce security.
Now maybe some firewalls work differently then expected and get in the way. I'll have to cross that bridge when I get to it. Meanwhile, I'll keep my security thanks.

Windows 98 did not offer any firewall protection as XP does. If this is your computer and you have not installed a firewall software package most likely you do not have a firewall installed. Check the security settings for IE as they may be preventing the load of the webpages.

Did you try pinging it from another computer?
RUN -> command
at DOS>ping your IP number
Find your IP# by running command WINIPCFG.
Any rudimentary FW will block it, plus on the DOS end it will show a failure.
