Nero cannot detect my cd burner

dear people:
it seems that Nero cannot detect my cd-writer. Whenever i click on the 'Select Recorder' option, only one device is listed there, which is the 'Image Recorder', while the 'ATAPI CD-R/RW 48X16' is missing. Why is this so and what should I do?

Have you gone to the manufacturer's web site (for your cd writer) and looked for updated drivers? Even if your writer is new, (it might have been manufactured six months ago and sat on a store shelf), there might be a newer driver on the website. Otherwise, look for a Support link and email them describing your dilema. They might have an answer for you.
Also, check your device manager: right-click on My Computer, click on the Devices tab, look for cd-rom, see if there are any checkmarks that indicate improper functioning. You may have to remove the device listed, restart your computer, and then check device manager again to see if your new device is shown on the cd-rom line item.
Maybe you will have to reinstall your cd writer software at this point if your cd writer does not show up in the device manager.
