Flash and movie files freeze computer

While surfing the internet, when I view certain webpages, namely those using flash animation, my computer freezes and I must reboot. My computer also freezes when I play to play movie files such as AVIs and MPEGs. Any ideas about what may cause this and how to correct it.

sounds like regular maintenance. Do disc cleanup/scan disc/disc defrag regularily run system file checker every so often, clean out files and cookies in internet options and clear temp internet files. Update flash and media player. Check microsoft Update for patches etc and critical updates.

its not regular maintenance, i'm sure, i do those things regularly anyways
