Unable to open CD Rom Drawer

I downloaded Yahoo Messenger then found I was unable to open my CD Rom drawer. Thinking there might be a conflict, I uninstalled messenger and that seemed to do the trick. However, the problem has recurred since then. When I start the computer, I can open the drawer, but once I've used a CD Rom, I have to restart the computer before the drawer will open again. I haven't installed any new programmes that could be causing this problem.
Hope someone can help as this is a real nuisance.

sounds to me like someone has played a prank on you or you downloaded a low risk virus. Either that or the power supply from your cd drive has loosened and the supply is sporatic. Open the box and check the wire to make sure it is seated firmly.

The idea of a prank is an interesting one, I don't know what I could do about that. I doubt if I have a virus but I will do a virus check to make sure, and I will check the wire tomorrow in the daylight. Thanks for the suggestions ed, I'll let you know how I get on.

Did a virus check, all clear. Checked out the wires and everything seems OK. The thing is,the drawer will open and close as often as I press the button until I have opened the files on any cd-rom, the drawer will then not respond when I wish to remove the cd-rom unless I restart my computer.

Have contacted the manufacturer's support staff and in their opinion the drive is most likely defective so now I have to phone their hotline to determine the warranty and whether they need to service the unit.
