It could be an IRQ conflict.
Assuming the sound card is not built into the motherboard, try moving it to a different PCI slot.

I started in safe mode and right clicked my computer, properties, device managers, hit display adapters and removed my driver from the list. Then i restarted and my comp thought it was new hardware and reinstalled it and everything worked fine only the sound was messed.it doesnt load in my system tray and i cant open the controls from anywhere else, the only way to get sound is to do the same thing i did with the display adapter and thats a pain.

Similar problem for me as well.Lastnight when I was screwing around trying to get my TeamSpeak to work so I could transmit, I did something to my sound as well..Go figure. Now not only can I not transmit, I can not recieve sound either. This is a problem with my computer, and not just Team Speak. I tested my mic on my computer and it worked fine, but I did something to my computer that made the sound not work.
I thought it might be a missing driver, so I went to a web page and downloaded the driver for my sound card. That still didn't help. If I turn my speakers up full blast you can just barely hear sound. So it's not a connection problem. It may be a device problem. If anyone can help me out with this it would be greatly appreciated. It would also save me some $$$ from taking it to the repair shop too. Please help.
Specs
Amd Athlon processor
256mb Ram
Creative Sound Blaster PCI128 sound card
This problem occurred after a restart. I found that after I restarted, my resolution was huge. Without me even changing the resolution.
Please help.
