Missing exe files..
Jeff

Win 98

cable

This morning I could not open any programs. I got the same (missing exe) promt for everything. I have reinstalled all programs that I use except for one and this seems to solve the problem.

I can't open outlook express to check email, nor can I log on to the Internet by double clicking the "E"

Any suggestions about what caused this and what to do about (IE and OE) would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Jeff

The first box that comes up is,

1. "Missing Shortcut"
Windows is searching for (program name)exe, to locate the file yourself click browse.

2. "Problem with shortcut"
The item (program name)exe that this shortcut refers to has been changed or moved.

This morning I have lost all my shortcuts to programfiles. The computer can not find the .exe file to start any programs. Is there a fix or do I have to reload all the programs?

Jeff,
The error you are getting occurs when you uninstall any program and parts of it are still left on the computer. The computer is searching for a program that no longer exists on your computer any longer. You obviously "fixed" it by re-installing the missing programs (except for one).
As far as your problem with IE, you might try to repair it by going to Control Panel-Add/Remove-clicking on IE and chosing repair. You might have to reinstall IE if this doesn't work.

"Corrupted" exe files..
I've done two complete scans of my files, both of which reported that setupx.exe and user.exe might be "corrupted." I don't understand what that means or what to do about it. I also seem to be missing something apparently required by Real Player - rjbtree8. No idea what that is.
