I can't tell, but it looks like the file may be very dependent on your video card. At least some of the sites implied that.

I have Win XP Pro. I did what Vasco did, but since I have Voodoo 3, instead of Voodoo 5. I got the required driver here:

Is there a good step by step action I can take? I have very basic computing skills and am very frustrated in my attempts to get my game running.

The folks at RTCW responded but were not useful in helping me to get my computer to run the program.

I have winXP Pro and a Voodoo 3 2000, which I must say is a very fast card when it's working..well it was on win98 se...
When I upgraded to XP I couldn't play:
Quake 3, Unreal Tournament, Medal of Honour, RTCW, Soldier of Fortune and more..ahh

So after painfully reading every last drull posting, and trying several suggestions including Vasco's, I still couldn't play most of those games..anyway I finally found a driver set that WORKS!! YES IT REALLY WORKS!!

i get the opengl subsystem thing like you guys, but the thing is i have a nvidia riva tnt2 32mb, and i have xp, i dont know wat to do!!

I got this from another website, MAD props to FrakieP, the origanal person who figured it out.

Second:
After the install of the videodriver search
for these 2 files:
opengl32.dll (670Kb, dated 7 sept 2001) and
opengl32.lib (325Kb, dated 16 july 1996).
The can be found in the windows\system32
directory.

Third:
Copy these 2 files into your game dir
for example: x:\Program Files\EA GAMES\MOHAA
(x is your drive letter where the game is installed!)
overwriting the old files that were there.
(the old opengl32.dll is 717Kb)

Last step:
Remove the '3dfxgl.dll' from your game dir.
that should fix the problem. I believe the
engine tries to load the 3dfx drivers
first. I think when they did the RTCW code
they did not do a validity check to make
sure there was not another opengl driver
before erroring out.

After these steps the game will work on XP too!!

i got a geforce 2 MX400 and i have tired to play MOHAA and it keeps on crashing as the game loads. I have patched it to version 1.1 and it still does not work. this is the error i recieve.

I have had the same "could not load Open GL subsystem" and 3dfxvgl" problem for SOF, SOF2 and MOHAA.

SOF worked fine in the beginning. SOF2 caused the first OpenGL problems; couldnt get it to work. SOF suddenly didnt work either. Funny thing was that after a harddisk crash and a complete new installation of hard and software, SOF2 DID work. I played it from start to end. And again. And then suddenly.. no openGL.

MOHAA also added the 3dfxvgl problem.

Someone mentioned that installing 3dfxvgl makes no sense if you have other than voodoo cards. But installing glide2x.dll did make some difference. It seems the startup now at least recognises the current screen settings and uses them. But then ... It cant get the right screensettings to work, it seems. It seems the MOHAA is pretty off balance, because it recognises a pentium III while I have a IV.

I checked with MS for updates on teh OpenGL. There it said:

The Opengl32.dll File May Cause an Access Violation and Cause a Program to Hang

Possibly that is the reason behind the startup.
Reinstalling system software or game never worked for me. Maybe I will reformat the harddisk again and see if that solves teh problem.

Try changing [DVA=0] in your win.ini file to [;DVA=0]. Reboot and..voila.
