I am also having the same problem with the error "Explorer has caused an error in wmpdxm.dll" when trying to open any folder. I can, however, go into IE. I received the error immediately after uninstalling Norton Anti Virus 2002 and rebooting. I'm on a Win98 ws. Any ideas??

this is a file in windows media player beta version. uninstall if you cn but updating to a final release should solve your wmpdxm problems. In future try not to d/l alpha or beta versions of anything.

I think i have found a way to fix it. I was getting that message, too. I am running on Windows ME. So i started thinking, 'what would happen if i renamed it?' so i searched for the file and found it in windows/system. I made a restore point in system restore, just in case. I renamed it wmpdxm.dll2, and when i opened explorer, it caused an error in 'msdxm.ocx'...(it is also in windows/system). I renamed that one msdxm.ocx2. now my computer works!!
If anyone tries this, i would recommend creating a restore point beforehand. I hope you will not have a problem with it after you try this.

whenever I try to open Control Panel, I get an error on wmpdxm.dll. I read Chris's repair above but cannot find the file anywhere on C drive. Does anywhere know specifically what directly this is in? I would like to try Chris's fix (renaming the file) given above.

"SUWIN has caused an error.. i Click close.. then it says "SUWIN caused a General Protection Fault in Module verx.dll at 0002:24AE.. *shrugs* help please? heh.. id appreciate any info.. oh yeah.. i cannot open ie.. i cannot open control panel.. and i cannot do a search on my comp.. when i click to open search.. nothing happens.. oh yeah.. each time i get the error "explorer has caused an error in wmpdxm.dll.. i would rename the dll and ocx file.. but as i said.. i cannot do a search... thanks again for any help..

Thankyou Chris MO .

I did the same thing by renaming the wmpdxm.dll
in windows/system files to wmpdxm.dll2 and the msdxm.dll renamed it msdxm.dll2 and now control panel and find files and folders works great now.

The following text is taken from http://www.riffinteractive.com/FAQ.htm#FAQ15

Microsoft really messed up a lot of things with version 9 of the Windows Media Player... It can be fixed by reverting back to a previous version
of the embedded audio player. This can be done with the following steps:
1) Select Start > Run on your system
2) Type "regsvr32.exe msdxm.ocx" and hit Enter
3) You should see a message saying that "DLLRegisterServer in msdxm.ocx succeeded".

...If you want to switch back to the version 9 embedded player, follow these steps to reverse the process:
1) Select Start > Run on your system
2) Type "regsvr32.exe wmpdxm.dll" and hit Enter
3) You should see a message saying that "DLLRegisterServer in wmpdxm.dll succeeded".

Chris,I just wanted you to know that I read your suggestion on the Newbie Help Forum and followed it. I was so fed up with the wmpdxm.dll error on my Windows ME that I even called Compaq with no real results. After trying your method and waiting three days to make sure that it was working for me, I have been very, very pleased because my computer is working perfectly now.

Many thanks to you and please continue to help as you have. Hey, someone actually reads and follows these newsboards.

Thanks again. Maya

Regarding the Riff instructions:

These instructions rule! I was on my way to Best Buy to buy a new computer because I have given up on this error message and my ME system. Nothing would open (Program Files, Find, Control Panel). I decided to check google first and I tried the Riff instructions. Everything was working within seconds.

Thanks so much!

Thanks again to Chris for his message on 3/23. I did what he said about adding the 2 to wmpdxm.dll and msdxm.ocx and it solved my problem. The thing was I couldn't even get to these files because my problem was extreme, but I downloaded a free tools program from the Call For Help site:
http://www.techtv.com/callforhelp/freefile/story/0,24330,3480866,00.html
and it got the files for me and I could change them right within the program. In case the link becomes dated and doesn't work, the name of the program is jv16 Power Tools.

ac browser caused an error in msdxm.ocx
I downloaded and installed AC Browser (a third party browser) and when I tried to open the .exe file I received the error message that AC Browser caused an error in MSDXM.OCX and would close. A FAQ on the website of AC Browser stated that an older MSDXM.OCX (version 6.4.09.1120)might caused the problem but any new version would work. The version I have on my computer is verison 6.4.09.1121 and I still get the error message. Any help would be appreciated. I e-mailed the Conrad Papala but I haven't receive an answer.

what is suwin error and how to fix it
i get suwin error when i go to run windows millemun setup, and can someone please tell me how to fix this problem,i am new at repairing my pc.
thank you for your help i need it,
Loral

08/19/03
Hi Judy,

One way to resolve this error is:

Boot to you Windows ME boot disk
Choose Minimal Boot
Change to C: drive
Change to the Windows folder
Rename the Win.com file to another name (I usually use my initials so I know that *I* did it something like - "ren win.com win-lrj.com"
(this way you can reverse your changes by renaming it back like - "ren win-lrj.com win.com")
Now go to you CD or C:\Windows\Options
Install folder and run setup.

You should now be able to perform your In Place Upgrade (reinstalling Windows over itself).

Good Luck!

FINDING wmpdxm.dll and msdxm.ocx files...
I had trouble finding the files at first. Go to start-programs-accessories-windows explorer. Find local disc C,then windows, then double click and open the system folder (instead of searching through all the sub-folders).I was only able to find the files when I opened the folder this way.

A big thank you goes out to one and all for resolving my "Invalid Page Fault caused by wmpdxm.dll".Anyone who has tried to open "My Computer" or any folder on your desk top and gets this message..try this.. Press start>run>type regsvr32.exe msdxm.ocx (Note:There is a space between exe and msdxm.ocx)then hit enter. It should tell you it was sucessfull. This has solved my problem instantly, and did not have to reboot before testing to see if it worked.
I use Windows98 SE and have Windows Media Player 9.
