Hi Chery. Back Web Lite (I suppose) is an upgrader that now comes with devices such as Logitech mice and others. It's crap... and spyware. The simple way to get rid of it is to download "Spybot Search &Destroy", get all the updates for it and run it in "Easy mode" ; delete everything found by Spybot. You should be good to go.

It keeps popping back onto my system... any way to keep it from returning ?

Was there an option to prevent that being installed on upgrading mouseware?

I don't seem to have back web installed

Peter, the BackWebLite was an option on my Logitech software CD. It's offered as an "Updater" program. Perhaps your version doesn't have it. From what I can tell, you weren't offered that "feature" when you upgraded online, That's good! Go to "Start">Programs">"Logitech" and look if there's something that looks like an updater. If so, go to add/remove, it should be there as well. More and more companies are using BackWeb to update their software (Logitech, Kodak, F-Secure, McAfee, and many others...) It has been said that Ad-Aware and SpyBot shouldn't target it, but that's a whole different discussion...

Logi_WMX.exe

Here's the weird thing I don't remember disabling it in msconfig. Its down there as unchecked. I must of done while sleep walking or something.

That file (process) means nothing to me (not to Google either). I have a realy bad memory for things like that. One thing I do remember : during the install of Mouseware, I had to uncheck the update feature. Then, the bastards, they offered :"Don't install now, but if you want to install later, click here bla-bla"... which I did. So BackWebLite was silently installed, but not "activated". Maybe that's your situation (but then you would see it in the Program directory, so you must be clean).

Logi..I would think its Logitech's. Now that file doesn't exist on my system. But it was disabled. Weird disabled shouldn't delete files.

Can a file show different names in its directory and in MSCONFIG? Sorry if it's a dumb question... 'cause I really don't know.

In MSconfig on the startup tab. Yes the names on the left side are there for your convenience to recognise them. However the path names and exe files on the right side will lead to where they are.

with spybot search and destroy I cannot remove backweblite ?? It is still mentioned in the list of detected spy but Spybot cannot remove this thing. What kind of suggestion do you have ?
Mark

Frank, SpyBot doesn't automatically place a "check mark" next to Backweblite items, so you may be trying to fix without having them checked (you need to check them manually). Their is a reason for this : Backweblite is both good and bad. Some legitimate companies use it to update their software (HP, Compaq, Logitech, Kodak, and others) while some use it for pure spying. If you delete the "good" entries, then your software updaters won't work anymore (no big deal... you can always update by going to their web sites directly). So, you can "search" your hard drive for all instances of Backweblite, and verify which are legit, and delete the bad ones. Or, remove all software updaters that use it and delete all entries of Backweblite that you find. Your call!!! Good luck.
