this is nvidia driver for the modem. If this is the driver originally installed with the modem you reinstall the modem drivers or look for updates at the manufacturers site. If this is a driver you downloaded to 'optimize' your modem's speed then reinstall the original drivers that came with the modem.

I am able to do everything else. I can download. I can browse fine for a while. Then all of a sudden, usually after a pop up window, it just hangs - completely freezes. I close it out and send the error report to Microsoft. I have no problems using Mozilla.
I'm on a Dell Dimension 8250 P4 2.0Ghz 512MB RAM, Windows XP Home IE 6

If you are using IE version 6.0 go to the control panel, click on add/remove programs, scroll down to Microsoft Internet Explorer, highlight it (click once on it) then click the add remove button at the bottom. A window pops open, click the button beside REPAIR IE and see if that fixes any of the issues mentioned above

I do believe this is a display driver NOT a modem driver. I'd start simple and check for an update to the driver, install it and see if that fixes the problem.

I have a customer that is getting the same error with a slightly different path:
signature: szAppName : IEXPLORE.EXE
szAppVer :
6.0.2800.1106 szModName : hungapp
szModVer : 0.0.0.0 offset : 00
C:\DOCUME~1\Dale\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERF.tmp.dir00\IEXPLORE.EXE.mdmp
C:\DOCUME~1\Dale\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERF.tmp.dir00\appcompat.txt
I have found 16 "appcompat.txt" files, and am perusing them.
I am inclined to agree with Ryan - update your video drivers. A BIOS Flash (update) may be required for some systems, and some systems just plain don't have good graphics abilities.
The motherboard I am working with is a Matsonic (Taiwan). They specialize in decent low-end motherboards, but this is one of their lower-end models (MS7308E) that is known to have a graphics weakness.
Check with your board manufacturer for a VGA driver update first, that would obviously be the wuick fix if it works.
I will post my findings here when i ahve resolved my customer's issue.

I'm still getting the hungapp response even after contacting microsoft and paying the 35.00 fee...as Dell was no help to me..microsoft has stayed in contact above and beyond with emails, but, no solution as of yet. I am tempted to have someone housecall my computer..I can't stand it..my state of the art computer now operates like a 1997 dial-up.. microsoft is helpful, but their techs are a little over my head, and more than once due to computer hang ups, I encountered problems sending info they requested...after all..I keep getting hungap whenever I execute more than one thing. Anyone have a solution yet??

Jana or any of the rest of you that are having the 'hung apps' problems, do you have any programs like Kazaa, PestPatrol or Netpumper on your computer? I started having this problem after I downloaded NetPumper. Later I found out that it is bundled with spyware, I think this may be my problem, but I am really unsure.

Some iexplore errors can be corrected by running a spyware remover. Occasionally you can correct iexplore errors by doing a repair on internet explorer from add and removes. Donna

That is an issue with your nvidia video drivers. Go to www.nvidia.com and download the latest drivers for your video card on your system. If you still have problems. Uninstall the currect dirvers then reinstall it. That will correct the problem. Simple task. not hard at all.

Possible fix for some of the above problems?
Under internet options in IE 6 uncheck the 'allow 3rd party browsers' (will need to run a restart). This will enable you to analyse if there is a 3rd party browser problem. I had problems with Kazaar and an Alexa toolbar.
Post a reply if it does so helps someone else. Maybe it just helped me.
hope this has helped someone out there.

I have had the same problem with a customers computer. IE 6 would freeze, especially after opening a PDF document in a new window. The error message is similar to this one :
signature: szAppName : IEXPLORE.EXE
szAppVer :
6.0.2800.1106 szModName : hungapp
szModVer : 0.0.0.0 offset : 00
C:\DOCUME~1\Dale\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERF.tmp.dir00\IEXPLORE.EXE.mdmp
C:\DOCUME~1\Dale\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERF.tmp.dir00\appcompat.txt ( as NeRds R uS wrote )
The solution in my case was to run Ad-Aware 6.0 which can be downloaded from eg. tucows.com.
After this, IE worked just fine.

It seems that in most instances, it's actually the spyware programs that causes IE to make those errors.
I just received an email from one who had followed my suggestion, and afterwards, everything worked fine.
So I guess this is the program to use, let's spread the news so that others can take advantage of this too. I've mailed Microsoft and asked them to mention this issue in their support bulletins.
Best wishes from

all day now no problems... I also must mention I don't use the defrag program that came with XP... I use a stand alone Executive Software Diskkeeper, great tool. I am fragmented often like ever time I use the machine.
All seems much better, I can task the system and task manager seems to be doing its job better as well. I would probably suggest that the Adware be applied weekly to keep the smooth running effects up to par along with the obvious XP tools in some order, to have a constant vigil over the adware or viruses... had the sobig.f/systematic will take of that for free!
thanx again from Indiana techy who was about to hang themselves with the computer cords!!

Same error here too:
IEXPLORE.EXE szAppVer : 6.0.2800.1106 szModName : hungapp
I had this a few months back, tried all sorts of fixes and the problem disappeared - no idea why.
Then last week I put in a new hard drive and did a 100% clean install: xp home. Straight away I got this error again.
So then I installed all the XP and IE updates etc. No difference. Ran a Norton virus check, ad aware and spybot. Again no effect.
Then I tried sfc /scannow and an IE6 repair. Disallowed third-party browsers etc
Nothing.
This is soo frustrating because I know it has to be something pretty simple because somehow I got rid of it last time.
PLEASE if anyone solves this then post here !

After days of hell I did an "upgrade" re-install of XP and this seems to have helped - no hangs for several hours now and that's unusual !
Very odd that a repair or sfc /scannow did nothing, but a re-install should work.
Seeems to me the culprit must be something within XP Home that gets affected when others apps are loaded.

iexplorer error? CLEAN YOUR CACHE!
This may seem like a silly suggestion but has anyone tried cleaning their cache? I had a problem where my daughter turned off the computer in mid-browse and on reboot, IE6 wouldn't launch and kept generating that annoying "Send error report?" message. When I looked at the specifics and saw it was something in the TMP (temp) directory, I cleaned out the IE and Windows temp cache, emptied the trash and then it worked! When I asked my alpha-nerd friends about it, they hypothesized that it was likely the hidden IE cache files (that make it appear IE is fast) got corrupted and when it tried to read them again after "crashing", it spazzed. Seems as likely as anything else...
To clean your cache (W98+), open My Computer, right click on your system (usually C:) drive and choose Properties. Click the Disk Cleanup button and wait a bit as it may take a while. When the next options screen comes up, put a check next to Temporary Internet Files, Recycle Bin and Temporary Files, click OK then Yes. When its done (again, it may be a while) Reboot and try again.
I hope this helps y'all as quickly as it helped me.
BTW, 'roo: Exec Soft's DiskKeeper is already in XP, just in a dumbed down version. Check Help about Disk Defrag to confirm.

Seems like IE is screwed up. I've tried removing IE and any service pack and reinstalling. I've also installed new java and new drivers for everything from my video card to sound card. I had this same IE6 error, in combination with windows XP prof. SP1. I use a notebook (HP omnibook 6000). I experienced that everything worked fine for a newly defined user
the steps I took toget rid of this --:
In the BIOS I disabled the screen stretching.
deleted a lot of files from the C:\Documents and Settings\..\Local Settings\Temp folder and copied new ones from the default user.
This did the trick
Good luck, Huub

I noticed later on that the error came back after using WEB OUTLOOK.
Another annoying aspect is that favorite folders, when displayed in the left pane of the explorer window, will not fold open anymore.
I put the security settings of internet explorer to DEFAULT again and the error disappeared.

The best way to get rid of all these problems is to install Netcaptor. It is a kind of shell around IE6.0. Adds some attractive extra features. After installing this small program, I never saw thes kind of problems any more.

i ONLY enocounter this error when my processor has been cranked using BIOS; and ONLY when online...default is 100/133/33 [200mhz FSB = 1.039ghz]; but if i crank it to 133/133/33 [266mhz FSB = 1.39ghz] then everythings fine 'n faster til i'm online for about 2 minutes and the error's in my face.
i heard it could be the network card...or a fluctuating power supply is causing the memory speed to fall below the FSB.

It is called the New Backdoor virus! in order to delete it first you have to do a virus update and then do a virus scan then look in the registry and see if you have this message hkey_local machine\software\subseven! and delete this specific message! as windows also uses the hkey machine! i have done everything that i could think of and am still getting the error but now it is different as it says local settings/temp/werd0.tmp..
i think the only way is to write the hard drive to zeros! if you go to yahoo and look under appcompat.txt error you should find a link that should guide and help u understand this problem! This virus is nasty as the hacker can take control of your computer and it can also tell who youve been talking to on yahoo and msn messanger! it also can makes it easy for the hacker to have control of your webcam! and i do believe that it does connect to the address in outlook express and goes to your contacts! it also tracks your computer!
i hope this helps all!
like i said you may need to write the hard drive to 0 and start over!
good luck
if anyone finds an easier solution than to write hard drive to 0 please let post it thank you

OK - I am having a similar error:
szAppName : IEXPLORE.EXE szAppVer : 6.0.2800.1106 szModName : hungapp
szModVer : 0.0.0.0 offset : 00
There are certain websites that as soon as I enter, it will stop loading & freeze. Then have to close the site. Some sites they always did this to me, others I could browse them fine, & later on they would freeze. Any idea why this does this? And how can I fix?
Thanks much!!!
PS - Does the "send error report" really help in solving the problems?

I am guessing we all have some version of the
Network Associates / McAfee Virus Scan program in common as this is what's causing it! I have read thousands of posts on this issue on the web and it does not seem to matter what program it is that is screwing up (IExplorer, WinRAR, Games etc) what seems to be the problem is running the above mentioned virus programs on the XP platform. I hav found a solution (shutting of the Download scan) but it isn't a good one since it makes your Outlook etc vulnerable to viruses so I will keeep on looking. If only nai.com had some patch for this..

matthew, could you give us more details about your problem? This is a thread about Internet Explorer.
If you have a desktop problem, I don't think it is an internet explorer problem.
What version of Windows do you have? We have WinXP.
If it is not an Internet Explorer, then you may wish to start another thread of your own. mirse@aol.com

For those with the IE6 "hungapp" error:
Try downloading Ad-aware, it will most likely fix the problem. I had reached my wits end when a friend of mine suggested this solution, and I haven't seen the error since.

I have spent so much time on this Hangapp crap I came close to dropkicking my computer to the moon. I think it started happening when I downloaded webroot spysweeper...not sure. Anyhow..the only thing that stopped the hag-ups was installing WindowsXP again (I did not uninstall first). It was a last ditch effort before I wiped out everthing and started form scratch..so far so good. Good luck!

OK - for those of you having the error:
szAppName : IEXPLORE.EXE szAppVer : 6.0.2800.1106 szModName : hungapp
szModVer : 0.0.0.0 offset : 00
I visited Antivirus.com and ran a Housecall virus check and identified it as WORM_HAWAWI.F.
I followed the instructions they provided after the Housecall finished and although I could not delete all the infected files, I deleted the worm's registry key files and no more problems.
On the website they also give detailed info about the worm just so you can be sure it's the same problem. If not, they have a virus encyclopedia w/ instructions on how to fix a variety of problems. I hope this helps. Cheers.

My monitor went black and into a power saving mode that I couldn't get it out of. After powering down and letting it sit for a while, I powered back up and got a message saying that I had recovered from a serious error consisting of "...WER23.tmp.dir00...". It then went black again (Power save mode) and I havent been able to get it out since. When I reboot it automatically goes black. I can't get the Windows or startup screen. I put the system recovery disk in but it did the same thing. Anyone have any ideas?

I just encountered the same issue with IE 6 - re: the hungapp error.
I used all sorts of programs to check for spyware, virus checkers, registry cleaners etc etc etc with very little success.
When I checked my add/remove programs folder I found that my Explorer had a serial number behind it (apparently it was updated) - so when I clicked on remove it said to uninstall to previous version. I did that. I also unchecked the 'enable third party browser extensions' tab in the internet options/security/advanced settings.
After rebooting my system I was completely operational again.
I hope this helps as I can relate to your frustration.

Hello everybody just wanted to say thanks for the help in fixing the iexplorer problem.I figured out the answer by reading all the problems and answers people had sent in already...and here is what i came up with:
1)if u are on windows xp all u have to do is click on start and right click on the internet explorer icon and left click on the properties tab in the menu which has now apeared after right clicking.
2)once u have done step 1 u will notice a new box appear with several tabs on top of it which take u to different pages.U must click on the most top right tab labelled Advanced.
3)the box will now apear to have many options which have little boxies next to them(some are empty and some have green ticks in them).what u must do is scroll down the list untill u come to a line saying "Enable third party browser exstensions (requires restart)"
once u see the exact centence above u will notice in the little box to the left of it is a tick.U must click on the tick so it it turns this option off and the tick will dissapear.
4)Then all that is left is a reboot(after saving these changes by clicking on apply)
IF by any chance this does not work then u will have to download something called ad-aware 6.0 from www.download.com.com
and run the program.once finished u will notice it has removed all spy ware off your pc.Then go to C:windows/driver cache and delete everything within that folder.
IF this does not work then u may have to do a disk clean up by right clicking on the C: folder in my computer and left clicking on propertise then tools and then click on error checking, check now.
hopefully with this little easy step guide u have fixed the problem.
oh and i want to say thx to all the people before me who told everyone how they fixed it.
and by the way
HAPPY NEW YEAR
if u have any questions dont hesitate to email me at liam_walker@ntlworld.com

I'd just like to give a big thanks to everybody who's researched this problem and posted solutions. I've attempted to diagnose and remove the problem without success for around three months. I followed the procedure in the last comment and my browser appears to have returned to normal. Knock on wood.
Again, a huge thanks to everybody here. I did almost everything except for a complete System Restore, and I'm glad that I didn't have to uninstall everything to get rid of this pesky bug.

Hi Angela u have windows 98. So when u right click on your internet explorer in the start menu and click on properties can u not disable the option ,allow 3rd party browser?
send me an email telling me the answer or write to me here on this site.I will look into the problem on windows 98 but i dont have it so it may take me a while to find how to fix it
by the way i believe that some forms of spyware and downloading programs like kazaa are what cause it, so if it helps let me know so i can narrow the problem down.
thx

Look people if u are still having problems with the iexplorer, its either your browser has picked up some spyware which is activated everytime u use it, or u have a downloading program like Kazaa, winmxor even shareaza, then they could be the problem.I only know kazaa to cause this error though. If u follow my instructions above(in the really big pink box)and u should be fine.
ps. sorry my instructions are so long but i had to make it as simple as possible, which usually means it has to be as ong as possible.
