winsock dll lost

I recently cleaned a virus successfully, but cannot get on the internet. I can connect to the internet, but cannot get any pages. I was told it may be a common problem: winsock dll. need to be repaired / replaced.
I have Windows 98, and use the Internet Explorer program.I need to know how to find the problem and how to repair it.

press the start button/run and in the box type sfc it'll scan for missing/currupt files and prompt for cd's or go to the following link

i can get into the internet, but i get nothing. But my phone line in busy, just as you stated above.
