I have an old PC running on AMD 486Mhz with 32Mb RAM. Each time I switch on the clock reverts to 01JAN1980 alto I changed it to current date/time. I have to run setup all over again to detect my HD. This is repeated after I switch off the PC the next time I switch on.
Why is this happening? Is is due to the battery on the motherboard? Or what could be the problem? Thanks and regards

Hi
There is no problem as such with your pc.
The only thing that has happened is the COMS’s battery needs replacing.

Problem is where can I find one of those old type of batteries - looks like a minature cell AAA battery unlike current flat lithium battery.
Would appreciate any pointers on how to locate and get one other than PC shops.
Thanks and regards

Hi geng59
I am in the UK and only aware of shops over here.
These batteries are normally standard sizes and are still available.
I am sure www.cpc.co.uk will have them in stock.

Some sites might sell the one you need online. The majority seem to be the coin-shaped batteries, so be sure to ask the retailer before ordering.

Hi,
somebody hacked my computer and seem to have done something to the cmos chip. Iam unable to install windows on my computer, I was told that my mother board needs replacement. Is it possible for someone to hack and kill the computer. Is there a solution without having to replace the mother board.
Regards
John

what is stopping you from installing windows/ what error messages do you get please be more specific in describing the problem and don't jump to conclusions chances of being hacked are next to nil please advise also if you have kazaa.
