What you have there is a nasty little piece of spyware. The above website will give you instructions on how to remove it from your box so you do not lose your internet connection.

Alternatively you can download and run:

<a href="http://www.lavasoftusa.com/">Lavasoft's AdAware</a>

Which should remove it for you.

Please read the first article before installing and running AdAware as there may be an easier way of removing it.
If you dont wanna remove to program but just disbale it try this:
All you have to do is go to Start, then Run, then type in msconfig. When that opens up go to the Startup tab which is the last one. This tab shows all the programs that start up when your computer boots up. Scroll down and find New.net Startup and uncheck it. Click apply and then OK. It will ask to restart your computer. Do so and when your computer starts back up, the error message will not show up anymore. You can also uncheck all the programs you don't want to load each time you start your computer. This will make your computer start up faster.

Pls let me know if this answer helped you to fix the problem, if not; i can always look further and youranswer helps me to give the right info to others.

I have the instructions to uninstalling the illegaly installed spyware. They are as follows:Attached below are the directions to remove the plug-in from the registry.
If you don't mind, could you please explain the events that lead to the file
disappearing? If we can gather enough information and duplicate it
internally we can remedy this situation in the future.

The procedure below is very detailed. Please follow each step carefully. If
you have a question or are not sure about a particular step, please ask as
soon as possible. Also, if you would rather a technician walk you through
this procedure over the phone, please call us at (626) 229-7800, Monday
through Friday between 8am and 5pm Pacific Standard Time.

Create a backup Registry file in case you experience further problems:

1.. Click Start

2.. Click Run

3.. Type in "regedit"

4.. Click OK

5.. Highlight "My Computer" on the left

6.. Click the Registry menu at the top and select "Export Registry File"

7.. Name the file "backup" and save it to your Desktop. [This is just in
case you make a mistake in the procedures below. Should you do so, locate
the "backup" file on your Desktop and double-click it. Select Yes and your
registry will be restored.]

Check for New.net Startup:

1.. In the left pane of the Registry Editor, under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE,
click the "+" sign next to Software

2.. Click the "+" sign next to Microsoft

3.. Click the "+" sign next to Windows

4.. Click the "+" sign next to Current Version

5.. Click on the Run folder

6.. On the right, locate the line that reads "New.net Startup" and delete
it

Remove "New.net Application" from Add/Remove Programs:

1.. Under the same Current Version folder from above, click the "+" sign
next to Uninstall

2.. Locate New.net Application and delete it

Remove the New.net software folder:

1.. In the left pane of the Registry Editor, under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE,
under "Software"

2.. Locate the "New.net" folder and delete it

Close the open folders above by clicking once on the small "-" signs next
to them.

Locate "Catalog Entries" folder:

1.. Under the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE folder, click the small "+" (plus) sign
next to System

2.. Click the small "+" (plus) sign next to CurrentControlSet

3.. Click the small "+" (plus) sign next to Services

4.. Click the small "+" (plus) sign next to WinSock2

5.. Click the small "+" (plus) sign next to Parameters. You should see 2
folders, "NameSpace_Catalog5" and "Protocol_Catalog9".

6.. Click the small "+" (plus) signs next to both of them

7.. Inside both folders, you should see a "Catalog_Entries" folder. Open
each of them.

8.. Within each of those folders are numbered folders (i.e. 001,
002, etc.)

For the "NameSpace_Catalog5" numbered folders:

1.. First, make note of how many folders there are

2.. Highlight the first one

3.. On the righthand side, locate the line "Library Path"

4.. In that line, the rightmost column should begin with something similar
to "C:windows" or "%SystemRoot%".

5.. Locate any of the numbered folders that read
"C:windowsnewdotnet2_109.dll" (or similar) in the "Library Path" line

6.. Delete only those folders referring to "newdotnet"

7.. If needed, rename each numbered folder so that they are all
consecutive. For example, if there were 4 folders and you deleted folders
the first 2, you will need to rename the remaining folders "001"
and "002".

8.. Do this by right-clicking the folder name, left-click Rename and then
type in the new number (be absolutely sure you don't delete any of the
zeros).

9.. Next, highlight the "NameSpace_Catalog5" folder on the lefthand side.

10.. On the right, locate the "Num_Catalog_Entries" line. At the end of
this line is a number in parentheses.

11.. Edit that number by doing the following:

i. Double-click "Num_Catalog_Entries"
ii. In the small pop-up window, select "Decimal"
iii. Edit the value of the number on the left to reflect the number of
remaining folders (in the case of the example in step G above, you would
enter 2)
iv. Click OK

For the "Protocol_Catalog9" numbered folders:

1.. First, make note of how many folders there are

2.. Highlight the first one

3.. On the righthand side, you will see a line beginning with
"PackedCatalogItem". Double-click on that word and a small window will
pop-up.

4.. In this window, several columns appear with numbers and letters. At
the top of the rightmost column appears a path that will look similar to,
"C:WINDOWSNEWDOTNET~.DLL" or "C:WINDOWSSYSTEM." followed by a long list of
characters.

5.. Look through each of the numbered folders and delete only those that
indicate "C:WINDOWSNEWDOTNET~.DLL" (or similar) in the "Edit Binary Value"
window described above. In other words, if you find a reference to
"NEWDOTNET." in the "Edit Binary Value" window, close the window first
(click "Cancel"), then highlight the numbered folder on the left you were
checking and delete it. If the folder does not have a "NEWDOTNET."
reference, DO NOT delete it.

6.. Rename each remaining numbered folder so that they are all
consecutive. For example, if there were 13 folders and you deleted 2 of
them, you will need to rename the remaining folders "001" through
"0011".

7.. Do this by right-clicking the folder name, left-click Rename, press
the "End" key on your keyboard once (next to "Delete"), press "Backspace"
once, then type in the new number (**be absolutely sure you don't delete any
of the zeros) and then press "Enter".

8.. Next, highlight the "Protocol_Catalog9" folder on the lefthand side.

9.. On the right, locate the "Num_Catalog_Entries" line. At the end of
this line is a number in parentheses.

10.. Edit that number by doing the following:

i. Double-click "Num_Catalog_Entries"
ii. In the small pop-up window, select "Decimal"
iii. Edit the value of the number on the left to reflect the number of
remaining folders (in the case of the example in step F above, you would
enter 11)
iv. Click OK

Again, you may close all open folders. Close the Registry Editor. Your
changes will be automatically saved. Reboot your computer and attempt to
access a website. See Step 6 (Registry backup) above if you experience other
unusual computer problems. If your Internet access has been restored, we
recommend you delete the registry backup file by doing the following:

1.. On your Windows desktop, locate the "backup" file that was created in
the Backup Registry procedure above.

2.. Delete the file and remove it from your Recycle Bin also.

Thanks for all your help! :)

As you can tell from the above instructions removing SpyWare is a pain in the butt.

It is much better to never install the disgusting stuff in the first place. And in the second place be sure to tell the company whose software contained the SpyWare that you never intend to do business with them again.

I've vowed to never do business with spammers and never to use programs containing spyware and never use a program from a company that is actively distributing spyware. So far this has kept me from using a few chat programs and software for trading warez and mp3. Nothing I can't live without.

If you are in a company and find spyware showing up on your computers look to change the company procedures. That spyware could have just as easily been a trojan or a virus.

I have been looking for a solution for the last 3 weeks online and had almost given up!

I am now going to test whether i can download again, as since this error I have not been able to I think this must have something to do with uninstalling Godzilla.

Wish me luck, will be back here if all goes wrong, thanks again.

I tried to remove New.net using Start, Run, type msconfig...click startup, scroll down if needed, uncheck the box having new.net startup, apply. ok. restart.

Some suggest downloading a file from the internet to remove this but i think you can just inactivate it by unchecking under msconfig. I hope this helps. I also had problems with my computer together with SaveNow. I unchecked both of them and my PC works well now.

You can also use search engines to look for the numerous tips regarding new.net. You have so many options to choose from. It's all up to you.

[<b> This is my response to the same problem in a similar post </b>]

Actually, I think the new.net software is installed via iMesh. It is luckily installed with an uninstall script, so all you have to do to remove it's reference from your startup is go to Add/Remove programs in the Control Panel. If you deleted the uninstall script somehow, or don't see the new.net reference in your Add/Remove programs applet, push WINDOWS KEY + R to call up the 'RUN' command window, and type msconfig (provided you are running Windows 98). Go to the startup tab and select STARTUP (the last tab), look for the new.net reference, and remove it. This also gives you the chance to stop other annoying programs from starting up on Windows boot, too. If you are using a later version of Windows, e.g. Windows XP, try using the RegCleaner program mentioned earlier in this thread, and if that doesn't work, call up the 'RUN' command dialog and type: regedit.
In Registry Editor search for the string 'new.net' or '.net' or something until you find the reference, and remove it. It should be in the /RUN or /RUN- key. Hope this helps. You're welcome to email me if you have any serious, intelligent questions regarding anything mentioned here.

Ok, I am gonna join the group. I have a Rundll32 error too. The exact text it: Rundll32 has caused an error in <unknown>. This happens when i restart my computer. I have a cable modem, a router, and two computers networked. Well, they were. With this error, my internet won't work when they are both going through the router. But, when I plug the computer directly into the modem, it works fine. But that is not my real problem. I want this darn error message to go away. I have already deleted spyware stuff. Please email me at: slickbiker2005@hotmail.com if you need more info, but only if you can really help me. Hi guys.

well new.dot is causing problems for me too.

When I start windows xp now, i get a rundll32 error saying could not find mudole newdot.net-2.dll

Ever since this has happened I have been unable to connect to the net.

If I open explorer, the computer recognises there is no connection and dials up my isp in the normal manner.

However if I the type a web address into the browser, it then gos straight to the no connection avaliable/no server screen.

It also affects my nod32 antivirus software, saying nod cant open pop3 soclet because it cant find newdotnet.dll

should i download th eprogramme and reinstall it to fix my problem...i.e. the exact opposite of what you guys are doing?

There is actually an easier way of resolving this issue. If you do a search for newdot*.* and newdotnet from start-> find -> files and folders and delete all references to new dot net that show up in the find window, then do the winsock 2 fix.

The microsoft solution site has step by step insturctions on how to do the winsock 2 fix. To perform the winsock 2 fix, go to start-> run->regedit and click ok.

From the windows registry editor click the + sign next to hkey_local_machine then click the + sign next to system then click the + sign next to current control set. Under Current control set, click the + sign next to services. Under services look for winsock 2 and delete the key. After deleting the key, go into start->settings->control panel-> add remove programs->windows setup. In the Windows Setup screen, double click communications and you should see a check mark next to dial up networking. uncheck dial up networking then click okay and then click apply. Windows will then copy some files and ask you to restart. After the computer restarts go back into the control panel and back into Add/remove programs under Windows Setup and double click communications again and put the check mark back into dial up networking then click okay and apply. the computer should ask to restart again. Restart the computer. When the computer restarts your connection should work fine after wards.

Note: This fix only works on Windows 95 through to Windows ME. Do not attempt this fix on Windows NT/2000/XP. Also, only certain versions of Windows 95 will work with this fix. Also note that the new.net folder and dll files must be deleted prior to performing the winsock 2 fix.

Respectfully presenting my multi-layered problem in the hopes of getting some guidance: is there a RUNDLL aspect to my headache?

(Running Windows ME) when I boot, I get a msg "Your display adapter conflicts with another device..." When I click OK to view the properties, the computer hangs on a grey screen. CTL-ALT-DEL results in a 'Close Program" window, showing Rundll32 (Not responding). Clicking end task, results in "this program is not responding..." When i 'End Task', the computer completes booting, but with a 16 colour display.

I also get an not very specific error msg (an error occurred while Windows was working with...) when I try to view my display adapter properties via the Device Manager.

I have DL'd Adaware and run (interesting exercise, that), and looked for anything resembling the 'newdot' thing in the registry and add/remove program box, without success.

Just wondering why the Rundll thing shows up when I try to fix my conflict...

Thinking of upgrading to Windows XP anyhow...do i need to fix this first, or might doing the Windows upgrade fix everything? (in my dreams, huh?)

Tnx for any wisdom.

My friend has an e-machine loaded with Windows ME and her kids messed with it and now things dont work well. Fisrt problem is: When computer is loading start-up files, a rundll error that reads: rundll has caused an error in MMSYSTEM.DLL and will quit running now. If you contiue to eperience problems you should restart your computer. I tried to find the file MMSYSTEM.DLL but was not found. I suspect a virus is causing this error. I unistalled McAfee 4.0 and installed McAfee 4.5 then updated DAT files. After reboot McAfee found infected file in C:/Choke.exe infected with W32/Choke.gen.worm. I chose to delete the file and then ran a virus scan on entire hard drive. The rundll error was displayed again after another reboot. Problem 2 is: I can not change video display settings they are currently set at the lowest res. and color settings. I can not find sound/mic controls and have no sound. Again I suspect these problems are due to a virus. Do you know how I can find and distroy the virus? I tried to find out about this Choke32.exe but could not find any info on it. Any ideas?

I am getting the same error as Paul Peterson, "this program has caused a illegal operation and will be shut down.. Details rundll 32 caused a invalid page fault in module (unknown) at 00:0063fe3a etc etc", but at times I am also getting "RUNDLL32 caused an invalid page fault in module KERNEL32.DLL at 0167:bff87edc. etc." I have tried replacing the rundll32 file but still get these errors. This is really starting to tick me off. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I kept having the same problem as Will so I downloaded and installed Ad Aware. I don't have the problem anymore and kept Kazaa. Now I've downloaded Zone Alarm (free firewall protector) from pcworld.com for extra protection.

Ditto -- same problems with my wife's PC (Win 95). Page Faults caused by RunDll32 errors.

They happen when attempting to use dial-up networking. Unable to track down the source.

Removed and reinstalled Dial-Up Networking -- Same errors. Upgraded to newer dial-up networking (MSDUN13) -- no change in symptoms.

Removed virtually all software starting from Registry (Task Scheduler, Virus Scan Programs, etc.) Even uninstalled the firewall (Zone Alarm). No change in symptoms.

We have no idea what caused the problem to start... However, we did have a virus not long ago on her PC (an Opaserv variant that got by the Virus Protection and Firewall). The problem started within a week of this virus.

At the time, I updated her laptop with the Microsoft Patches for "Share Level Password Vulnerability", which the virus exploited to gain access to her PC via her Internet Connection, and used a tool specific to the virus to get rid of it (AVG Antivirus Could see it, but not get rid of it without the Microsoft Patches installed). To be safe, I also ran a Opaserv removal utility.

I strongly suspect that the problem is being caused by a yet undetected virus of some flavor, but nothing that I've got can find one. Ditto for Spy Detection software -- nothing found.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have XP on my computer and I cannot find on my desktop an icon for the Recycle bin nor the file/folder in which the files are stored. Where do I go to restore the desktop icon?
Ma5

12/14/02
Hi Dorothy
To drop shortcuts of My Documents etc on the desktop go to:

Desktop showing or hiding Icons mode: Right click on Desktop and point to “Arrange Icons By” select “Show Desktop Icons”. After several seconds Desktop will switch mode. If there is a tick to the left of “Show Desktop Icons” line then this mode is switched on.

To Add or remove Desktop Icons from Desktop: go to Start > Control Panel > Display > Desktop > Customize Desktop
Then select the items you want to appear or disappear from Desktop.

I'm another fuming NewDotNet victim. My variant shows up as RPCSS caused invalid page fault in MSAFD.DLL and have lost internet connectivity. I've tried all the basic stuff and am ready to do the regedit (I've done some before) QUESTION: Under PackedCatalogItem all 4 files have a reference to newnet. Is it OK to remove them all? All my other W98 machines have at least one file referenceing msafd.dll l (yes, there is a lonely "l" there).

I, like so many others, am getting the RunDLL.32 error message when I reboot. I have received a number of remedies to solve this problem, but to no avail. I am barely computer literate, so any solution would need to simple. What is driving me nuts is that I have recently purchased a personal Cd player that will alos play MP3s.

I have an HP 9300i Cd burner and have attempted to upgrade to the new RecoredNow that will allow me to record MP3s. I can use apprximately 43% of the available space before I receive a MyCD error massage. I have been told that the two errors are related to one another.

HELP, but please make it simple!

Can I TOTALLY remove any traces of PAGOO or any other programs from my system, by using the instructions you gave for 'Rundll32'? I got as far as 'Microsoft'under HKEY-LOCAL-MACHINE and noticed that PAGOO and YAHOO was still listed.

Also, I can't seem to remove 'Met Connect' icon from my desktop (previous ISP)or from Add/Remove list.

Your help is much appreciated. Was unable to e-mail you.
