Swede: Whats bad about it? Actually i find no fault with it so thats that end. What's good about it? Well that on the other end i can discuss somewhat. Many things can and do go wrong with a computer as you well know. System restore is able to do just as it says restore to an earlier time when things were working well, before system crashes that kind of thing just for an example. I just had to do a system restore a hort while ago. Example being I was working on the net one day and my machine was acting screwie so i did the regular checks, virus scans, sweeps the whole gambit, I found nothing that would describe what was going on, so i decided instead of driving myself nuts just to do a restore, took maybe 10 minutes and was working like there was nothing wrong, see what i mean? Oh i guess there is one thing wrong, that i did forget about when you delete programs or move files around on the day that the snapshot was taken they will reappear or dissapear depending on what you did that day. Other than that restore is a great feature that i wish was around when i first started computing. Just my 2 cents...

Hi John L
You're talking about "restore to an earlier time" How far back, can I go in history,to have a system that was just as if it was a totaly new install?
I mean from scratch.

there is only 1 minor issue with system restore in XP in fact i would not even call it a issue its more of an annoyance.
system restore is a protected folder, and as such antivirus application are unable to clean in it.. If you get a virri - they tend to hide in the restore folder, then all of your restore points have to be deleted (turning off system restore) to flush the virri out. thus making system restore useless in these cases. Other than that it works well!

Is there some way to back up 'restore points' so that when you check for viruses after turing off the system and you've lost them . to get'em back
