videocard settings problem

i have a problem with my videocard [GeforceFX5900 128mb], im trying to turn vsync off in my videocard settings, but as i go into display settings>settings>advance>GeforceFX5900, it says "catastrophic failure" and gives me a blank page.
is there any way to fix the failure, or anyway to turn vsync off without having to go into videocard settings?
