A friend's computer was affected with a virus.
Not knowing how to download attachments, I only just barely started on hers, then stopped.
When she found the virus had hit, she advised me to run the an anti-virus program in my computer.
I found "Norton Utilities" but cannot understand how to work it's Repair service, or even if the virus hit the computer---it did list it foound 12 "mistakes".
Computers are so HARD to understand!
What do I do to destroy any viruses, etc. in regard to them??!

First at Norton to the list of anti-virus programs you don't understand yet. Then see if you can fair better with McAfee or f-secure.com

If you and/or friend have a virus it is worth buying a virus protection program. The main reason for this is the tech support. If you don't have a virus you may never need tech support. But if you have one it is likely you will.

I find the f-secure.com virus protection program a little expensive but very easy to use. I've removed viruses from my computer twice with this product. http://www.f-secure.com

Grisoft.com has a free virus protection program. See if you can work with its interface. http://www.grisoft.com/

I know I have the virus Worm Klez-e I have all the syptoms to this virus but I cannot remove it the way it is said on all the net pages.
Any suggestions?
Frank

Get yourself a virus protection program.
When you purchase virus software you also purchase tech support. This means they will help you to remove the virus. It really is worth the money.

There is a klex fix that can be downloaded from symantics site , make sure you dont run outlook express while you have the virus on your computer as it is a pain in the ass virus.
norton anti virus will get rid of it , and a good thing to do is go into the quarantined file section of the program and permanently delete the sucker

Grisoft.com has a free anti-virus program. It should handle the situation just fine.

Last month I was hit by the virus yaha-K A friend came over and we got rid of most of it - I don't know how. But now I can't open any attatchments in my e-mail. We had about 98 quarantined items which have been dealt with. I have Norton anti Virus 2003. How do I finish the job and deal with my attatchments?

I have Norton anti-virus installed on my computer and I still picked up a virus called W3.HLLW.Donk.
Norton won't even talk to you unless you pay for additional support and tell you by way of a recording to go to their website but I am unable to reach it.
Other than doing a complete reinstall, does anyone have any suggestions?

David,

goto www.sarc.com and search for the virus which your program is informing you of. Normally they will have detailed directions on how to manually remove the virus.

Here's a link to the W32.Klez Removal Tool at the Norton site
http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.klez.removal.tool.html

I often recommend the Panda online virus scan, often [not always] it can remove a virus for you & will identify the virus if you are infected.

Good luck

I get a ddhelp.exe message.

It says that the program has performed a fatal error on ms6.exe.

I am not able to even identify this error.

I thought it was a Backdoor.NetCrack error but those files that Norton asks to remove from the regedit settings to remove the error are not even there.

So I am not sure what is going wrong.

Please help.

ok all you people using norton and having problems with it need to just uninstall norton and download AVG antivirus. It's alot easier to set up and use, it works, and it's free. Trust me on this. I never had any luck getting norton to remove viruses, but AVG will stop a virus from executing and it will clean your computer if it does get infected.

I had a trojan horse dialer yesterday that AVG picked up but would not send to the vault. I downloaded Avast, a free anti-virus program with a forum for support. Avast did not remove it, but someone in the forum told me how: go to http://vil.nai.com/vil/SystemHelpDocs/DisableSysRestore.htm
This completely removed it from my computer. I also downloaded SpyBot S&D, AdAware, both free programs. I'm so new at this...I didn't realize you had to have a complete aresenal because of all the freaks out there. Hope this works for you, too.

I'm guessing MsBlast.

Turn on your firewall.
Get the patches. IMPORTANT
Get a removal tool.

Turn on your firewall:
How to Enable Internet Connection Firewall (ICF) on Windows XP

1. On the taskbar at the bottom of your screen, click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2. Click the Network and Internet Connections category.
(If the Network and Internet Connectionsis not visible, click Switch to Category View under Control Panel on the left side of the Control Panel window.)
3. Click Network Connections.
4. Right-click the Dial-up, LAN, or High-Speed Internet connection that you use to connect to the Internet, and then click Properties from the context menu.
5. On the Advanced tab, under Internet Connection Firewall, select Protect my computer or network, and then click OK.
The Windows XP firewall is now enabled.

Full instructions, patches, tools here:

http://www.microsoft.com/security/incident/blast.asp#

Do the above first,but:

YOU CAN STOP THE SHUTDOWN TIMER. If you're machine keeps rebooting so often you can't even download the patches, use the 'shutdown' command to abort the reboot.
You can disable this shutdown by following the steps below during the countdown

1. Click on Start, Run
2. Type in CMD and press ENTER
3. Type in the following command and press Enter

SHUTDOWN -A

This will terminate the shutdown, however in most cases the system may be to unstable to try to recover and may need to be rebooted anyway.

HELP! I`m pretty sure I`m being targeted for viruses. I`ve tried Norton, Mcafee, Zonealarm and currently AVG 7Pro and I still keep getting them almost daily. I check anything download, but it still happens. I`ve just learned I`ve got Donk, and it`s not being picked up by my antivirus, so a big thank you to Snowman if that Stinger works. It says it`s deleted 2 files. Can anyone suggest anything else I cxan do? My anti-virus updates everyday. Thanks, Ben
