I hava an older computer that I am attempting to upgrade.
specs
IBM aptiva 2174-595
Anigma S30 motherboard
AMD Athlon k7 600 mhz slot a cpu
256 pc100 ram
27gb 5400 rpm hd
8mb graphic card
I bought an Athlon k7 750mhz thunderbird 1.7V cpu (from ebay unused) to speed things up but I cant get it to work with this computer. The computer freezes on the aptiva flash screen. It looks like it starts the boot sequence but I cant get it to boot from floppy or cd either. I tried flashing and updating the bios version. I cant find any info on IBM site or other webpages that tell me anything about cpu upgrades on the aptiva models. I downloaded "fresh diagnostics" software and that said my motherboard should be able to support up to 800 mhz cpus.
Does anyone know what the problem could be? I am almost thinking it could be that the new thunderbird cpu is not getting enought voltage from the motherboard. Im not sure because i could not find any info on voltage requirments on my motherboard or how much the old 600 mhz cpu required. Any ideas was be great.
