try START, RUN, type MSCONFIG and click ok. System Configuration Utility comes up. Go to the last tab on the right, Startup. Find Rundll32 and uncheck it. It may be under Command.

Try the repair utility in IE. In windows 98 its at start/programs/accessories/system tool/system information under tools tab.
in the same tools tab run file checker to find deleted or currupt files-choose update for all files if messages come up BUT if currupt message comes up choose restore and follow the prompts.
