Hi: Sometimes I get e-mails that confuse me. One friend in particular sends me jokes that he gets either from the internet or that has been sent to him from another friend. when it arrives at my (e-mailbox?) it might say "Fwd" and the subject. It might also have a paperclip
indicating an attachment. I know what they mean. I think. The Fwd is a
joke the sender is forwarding to me & the clip requires me to dbl click on it to see the attachment. Here is the prob. When I click on the clip I get a long list of strangers & their e-mail addresses. THATS IT!!! no jokes, no anything. Is this part of the MSN/AOL wargames or is my friend doing something wrong. He is an AOL user & I'm using MSN. When the above situation works I usually get a little square icon after clicking on the paperclip. When i click on the icon I get the contents of the attachment.
I'm confused can you help???

Actually I avoid MSN like the plague -- sorry.
I also avoid AOL like the plague as well. I guess I'm just an mean ol'
cuss.
However I might be able to shead some like on what's happening.
It is true that some folks don't handle forwards very well. And they do
end up
sending along a huge list of email addresses. I for one don't like that.
It means
my address is going to a bunch of strangers.
Something which you should be careful of is opening attachments.
Never open an attachment which is an exe file.
It could be a virus.
Opening graphics and text is save.
Opening Outlook attachment or Word attachment can be dangerous.
Exe is total no-no.
Hope this helps

I have noticed then when email comes from a network like AOL, MSN, etc., or has passed through those places, the forwarded mail tends to get wrapped up inside the other email. I have received email where the actual mail is 6-7 layers down. An attachment within an attachment within an attachment...as many as the people who forwarded it. Yeah it stinks. There doesn't really seem to be a solution except open 6 attachments to get to the mail...or delete the mail. It might be the digital translation from a network to the internet, or just the lousy way some systems handle email. However, if you only have one attachment - and no joke - then the sender probably did something wrong in sending. Hope this helps.

Question, how do you send attachments with e-mail? Example would be
pics and/or sounds.

Five days ago when I clicked an email with graphic attachments, bmp, jpg, or gif, static or animated they would open right in the email itself. Now the computer locks with the all encompassing illegal operation. Any ideas and I can send the body of the error text.
Thanks,
Vince

Have received many messages over the years but I'm baffled by messages I'm receiving from one friend. The message is garbled in that every word he writes is followed by "&nbsp". What could be causing this? Thanks for any help.

the &nbsp just means a empty space. Sometimes computers use different characters for sending the correct information, but the translation of the code was incorrect by your computer.
It looks like the email from your friend is written in HTML (like most pages on the web). You can enable html-view in your mailprogram, or if that option is not available you can copy-paste the text into a text editor and save the text with the extension .html
Then open the file with your browser and you can see the email and layout like you friend has written it.
Hope this helps.

Niels.

I often receive e-mails, from one person in particular, that when you try you open them you get about three chances to open them. Then when you click the last time the page comes up blank. If I go to "view source" I can get the text, but no pictures, of coarse. Is the problem with my system or hers?

If I want to forward only part of an email how do I do it?
Frank

One method is to copy the part you want to forward and paste it into a new email. This might be the safest method if you are trying to avoid sending sensitive material.

Otherwise, you can forward the email and choose to edit the email before it is sent. Then delete the parts of the email you don't wish to send.
I know the menu commands to do this in Pegasus. For other email programs I'm not so sure.

I often get emails mostly in re: to homebased businesses which state to click on our link below to do whatever. How do I know which of these headers below refer to the one I am trying to receive. I cant click on those links, but how do I know which one is the link I am looking for and do I have to go to that email address thru go above
Frank

It's easy.
Never, Never, NEVER, click on any links in an email SPAM. Vow to never do business with spammers. It is the only way to help reduce the spam on the internet. As long a people continue to actually buy into their spamming ways they will continue to do it.
If you get a piece of spam and the idea for some reason looks interesting do the following.

1) write down a few keywords from the email about the interesting idea. In your case maybe "home based business"
2) write down the name of the company that just spammed you.
3) delete the email.
4) Go to google.com (or your favorite search engine).
5) Lookup the keywords you wrote down in 1. "home based business"
6) Look at the results of your seach and find a company to work with -- unless the company is the one in step 2.

Never do business with spammers.
Never buy from spammers.
Never look at spammers websites.

This will help stop spammers and protect you from being put on major spam lists and perhaps protect you from damaging viruses.

If I go to *.tmp I get a list of files all ending in tmp. Is it safe for me to delete these?

If I go to C:\WINDOWS\TEMP I find 239 files of various descriptions. Since these are identified as TEMP is it safe to delete these as well?
Thanks.

Can anyone please explain "about blank"? I use my yahoo account to sorta practice my gifs/jpg. I used to be able to type it out and hit the preview screen to double check to see if I had done it correctly. I'm still learning. Now when I check the box and click preview..its blank! My gifs/jpgs are stored and are linkable from my site at Homestead.
This started when I installed an AOL disk and within minutes I lost my IE and then my comp crashed! ( I know, I was desperate!!!)

I am unable to forward emails with .gifs embedded in them from yahoo. All that comes through at the receiving end is a box with a little "X" in it and the text.

What am I doing wrong?

I don't know why you are posting this on a 2 year old thread but When you open up your email client look in your "sent' folder if you see the image that was supposed to be in there then the problem is with your recipient who's settings do not allow him to view images.
