Exception ESock Error

I'm trying to hook up with Verizon DSL but before I could do that, I had to install an ethernet card (a plugnplay). While installing the drivers and software for dsl, I got this message: Exception ESock Error in module RUN.DL @ 000703BD. 10038: Socket operation on non-socket." Does this mean the ethernet card is not compatable with my computer or do I have a bad file? How can I fix this???

I am getting the message when I am trying to install my network card. So I was just wondering if you ever found out what caused it or what you did?
