Here is a message I just received from my Computer.
O/S is Windows XP Home.
Application popup: Windows - Virtual Memory Minimum Too Low: Your
system is low on virtual memory. Windows is increasing the size of
your virtual memory paging file. During this process, memory requests
for some applications may be denied. For more information, see Help.
Are there any computer procedures I should do as a result
of receiving such a message?
Thanks,
Maggie

you can turn off the notification, Its one of the messenger services . Check in control panel/admin tools/services. when you click a service listed the purpose of the service is shown and what depends on it, you'll find the answer there.
The best solution as I had the same messages all the time was to go ahead and buy more ram now 512mb of ram and no messages

I just started getting the message your previous person sent you:

However, while I have a 256MB of ram, I've only had my notebook for 2-3 months and I started noticing this slowness in the last weeks, but specifically when, on Yahoo homepage, viewing an astronomy image (which I then saved as a backround image) then--Boom, everything is slow as molassas. Secondly, when I go to the control panel to go to display, where I could delete the image, that jams up and I have to shut everything down.

you really need 512 mb of ram with xp that will get rid of the notifications, or just turn off the notification service as stated above.

I have 256 MBs of RAM and this never happened until now. I'm not so sure on the whole turning off the notifications because I'm afraid the computer may die on me. ¬_¬
I always play Diablo II and this never happened until I turned it off recently and rebooted based on lag I got. I'm not sure if DII is the culprit although I have never played it for the entire day...
Any suggestions?

ed's post is correct, either upgrade your memory or turn off the service.
now virtual memory is a part of your overall memory which is put aside by the computer for things like.. remembering what applications are open, cache, Alt tabbing etc. now once the allocated virtual memory is used up, you will get a warning. the 'Virtual memory' clears itself after a reboot, and for those of you querying why you are getting the message now, I ask you this..
some of you play graphics intensive games or may have installed some software recently that when running stores a lot of information in virutual memory, others may have lots of resource hungry applications open at the same time and you flick between them.. all that uses virtual memory.
now a few things to note..
all microsoft Operating systems are usually set to allocate the virtual memory automatically and it will use a formula based on the physical memory in your pc. This can be turned off, but I wouldn't suggest it unless you really have to.
secondly, once the error appears - the virtual memory quota has been reached, the pc then uses a method called 'Pageing out' this is when the pc has to use a file rather than virtual memory to store your data, it will contiune doing this until the machine is rebooted.. so closing your applications down to free up the memory does not always work! -REBOOT!!!!

I have just read the article on URL from MJK about virtual memory... this is a newbie forum, not a technical forum.. the readers here will not understand the text on that page, that is why i tried to explain it above in a easier description.

My computer has been running slow lately and today I got the low memory message. I rebooted and cleared out the cache and cookies. It seems to have worked for now.

Hi there,
I've been suffering with this problem too. I would turn the warning message off, it pops up yo tell you there's a problem!
I believe it's an adware virus. I've downloaded a squared and ccleaner {which is free}. Run a squared a malware cleaner and then run ccleaner, it cleans all the crap off your pc. This helped for me but I think the problem is still there. If you have XP do a system restore to a date b4 the problem occured, unfortunately I didn't have an earlier restore point. System restore has saved my pc on many other occasions, one to remember.
I've also downloaded memokit, a piece of software that monitors all running applications for virtual memory useage. It lets you see which application is using all the memory and allows you to turn it off. I've noticed some dodgy applications which could be viruses, will do some investigation.
Good luck,
Jimmy

Look for an executable called Pseula.exe in your task list, this is eating all you memory. If you find it, go to WINNT\WEB and rename the file to something else (e.g. Pseula.old). This nasty little bug will eat at your memory until you get the error message that you are describing. There's not a lot of info on this thing yet, but I will be researching it this week.

I have 512MB RAM and have not yet installed SP2, but I began getting this error message recently *on startup*. Several programs will fail to load on startup, and it is random each time: Logitech's Backweb, Norton AV, ZoneLabs, MS Office shortcut bar, and others. Sometimes Internet Explorer's proxy settings get erased, and I have to re-enter them.
I of course suspect foul play, but see no signs. Since on this startup both Norton AV and PestPatrol are working, I shall start them running.

I ran into this after JUST NOW reinstalling Windows because I kept getting the same message. I thought it was because I had too much stuff on the drive so after uninstalling programs and I STILL got it, (and mind you, this VERY NICE IBM laptop of mine would grind for seemingly hours), I gave up and used restore disks I'd created when I first got the laptop. Right off the bat, with TWO programs running with 256mb ram, here it was AGAIN. I checked the task manager and I haven't installed anything yet where spyware or malware would be suspect so I researched it and found this guy's post on another site: "Do this first,GO to start, Right click on MY COMPUTER, click on Properties
click on the ADVANCED TAB at the top, in the PERFORMANCE block click
on SETTINGS,and then the ADVANCED TAB at the top of that opened block. Go down to the Virtual memory block at the bottom and hit ,
CHANGE, and when you get in there ,make sure the radial button is selected in (System Managed Size) and then hit the SET button on the
right, then hit yes ,yes ,okay apply and reboot.
This alone may fix it." I did that and also went into Control Panel, Performance, Admin, Services and turned off the stupid Error Reporting and Messenger. These measures seemed to have shut it up and it also seems to be running even faster.

Hi, one added note: all of my buddy techie friends keep laughing at me trying to continue goofing around with Microsoft. They've all moved to Linux and have NONE of these issues - EVER. I've managed to collect several "flavors" that play off cd, also several books, and I think it's time to get off the pot and move. Especially now with hearing CONSTANTLY about issues with SP2. Sounds like it creates more problems than solves them and I'm not up for it. These days many versions of Linux (also working with Wine) run your Windows software so I'm running out of excuses...

You think you have problems.. WELL!! We ALSO receive this Error, also have SP2. But now programs have started randomly exiting for no reason. And We'll receive errors that a program can't open, I have the exact error written down I forget it now.. and can't find the peice of paper. Needless to say everything wrongs fine until the virtual memory error comes up, we just tripled our RAM and have been NO difference...
