Why does my hotmail freeze with MSN Messenger 4.6?

This has happened to me and some people i know...when i use the latest version of msn messenger and open my inbox, the hotmail window freezes for about 5minutes so i can't read my messages...right now i'm using the old version 3.5 coz it works...however i want to upgrade it to 4.6 but need some help to fix this problem...please help!

I have the same problem... ie, Hotmail freezing up, for one to five minutes... but didn't associate it with Messenger. But maybe so... hmm. Anyone else, suggestions?

ok, here's the deal. hotmail looks thru your comp for msn messenger, and loads it at every page. if you dont sign on, and switch pages, its loads it again, causing a delay. if you log onto msn messenger BEFORE you enter the hotmail account, you will be fine. also, if you use any other browser like netscape, opera, or enigma, you wont have problems. its the .net passport being a homo.

Since last week everytime I try and open an instant message window it freezes. I have tried numerous times to reload it but the problem wont go away, any ideas??

hey guys i have a huge problemo alright a couple of weeks ago my friend was coming to spend the nite with me and we are internet freaks well she got on my computer and changed the color of my screen from black to white! ok ever since we did that when i try to log into msn messenger it freezes most of the time! i am really mad what can i do??? please help asap??

I have always been able to log on to Hotmail, since I have installed Microsoft XP I can no longer do so, I get a message stating: Acct. Temp. Unavaible, it also states I am already logged in as anthjose@attbi.net.

When I click on the Help tab, my computer shows that it's running Internet Explorer but there's nothing written next to "Version", "Cipher Strength" or "Product Id", I can't Sign in to Hotmail or any other "Secure" sites including chat rooms.

Why does MSN Messenger 4.6 always FREEZE? It's crappy, and once you download it and it doesn't work and you delete it you can never get it back. There is a plug-in that you can download to stop MSN Messenger from freezing. Search for the plug-in on yahoo.com or any other search engine.

I have msn 6 and i try and sign in and guess what it freezes. I have signed in and signed in again but nothing willl work. I have restarted my comp open and shut msn. PLEASE HELP MSN IS MY LIFE ON THE HOLIDAYS

when my msn freezes when i try 2 sign in. i just go 2 cotrol panel, add/remove programs n remove MSN messenger from my comp. then install it again. it works but after a few times it freezes again n i have 2 repeat it all again. it gets a bit anoyin but atleast it keeps it workin. it might help some of u

May I just ask .. what are you doing in MSN when it freezes? are you trying to goto Hotmail by any chance ? If this is the case I may have a few solutions for you to try.

well rlly, msn messenger keeps freezin, but u can sign in this way...
u ave 2 go 2 the start menu, then go 2 settings, enter the control panel and go 2 add/remove programs, remove msn messenger 4.6, and u can d/l it agen, it might not freeze 4 a few weeks, but den u g2 keep deleting it and d/lin it, at least u get 2 tlk 2 ur m8s!

mostly every time i am chating 2 my friends it will frez up and it mostly freezes up on importent stuff and sometimes when i am signing on it will say there is something wrong with my connection or messenger is down and my internet is working fine because every thing els works and i check 2 see if messenger is down and it is not down (if u want 2 add me go ahead but if u act like jirks dont bother adding me because i will make ur life a liveing H*LL)

the problem may not be with your pc but with the ISP you are using. MSN6 and Hotmail both are using HTTP secure pages and they require WEBdav file extensions enabled on your ISP or a proxy setup.
If i were you I would contact your ISP and ask if they have a proxy or a transparent proxy enabled. If they do this could be your problem, ask them to talk you through adding the proxy to your dial up or lan settings (yes it effects cable modems too) and then just try again. You never know this may be your problem.. and if it is its not your fault after all - blame Microsoft for their latest releases :)All the best

thanks mikeyb. i have been trying to fix this for ages, and no one could help!! i spoke to my cable co. NTL. and they do have a transparent proxy and they gave me the proxy and sure enough the msn and my hotmail worked straight away. 1 prob tho.. i have a 600k cable modem and their proxy is 10 gig, but my connection speed has reduced down to 150k?? any ideas?? thanks in advance. I just refreshed this thread Eno so saw your reply straight away. Glad to hear its worked for you and yes i may have a solution for you on your connection speed, and indeed for anyone else who may experience degraded performance using your isp's proxy. download TCP OPTIMIZER you can search for it in google its only 416k so wont take long, follow the web instructions or post me a question and i will reply. this should do the trick.

proxy settings are under internet options. Click on Tools, Internet Options, Connections Tab, Lan Settings, and the Proxy and auto detect settings are in there.

it is possible that your ISP has what is called a transparent proxy running. (this is a proxy that is not setup at the local machine, but at the ISP server) give them a call and ask if they have a proxy or transparent proxy and ask them to talk you through setting it up.

i had a similar problem, when i wanted to talk to a friend i opened the IM convo and it would freeze ...i resolved this by getting a new hotmail account and not doing anything with my msn messenger ...
right now im having a problem of signing on, when i do so it will tell me that my LAN settings are wrong or missing ...now i know they aint been changed and yet i can access web sites easily except msn.com or even hotmail.com ...anyone know?

I am having a similar problem. when I try to use msn 6 it sais that the proxy settings are incorrect or missing. I check them out and auto detect settings is ticked. I dont know what to do so if some one could help I would realy appreciate it.
