Deleted file by mistake

Hey guyz,

Can you recover a file that you "accidently" deleted? I was working on a website and dumped it by mistake and I need it back.

Hey there !

Well, I'm guessing it's not in a regular "Recycle bin"... so I can kiss the "easy" answer bye-bye...

Hmmm, I've never worked on websites, so someone else will need to stop by. Is that thing on a server ??

Darn - you can't kiss the "boo-boo" back to life?

Ok - what if... what if I went to files and folders - can I search thru my C drive and type in the folders name - do you think I can find it there?

I thought even if you deleted something, it never is really deleted.. Is that true or was someone pulling something over the blonde hair?

With the proper software ($$$), any file can be brought back to life (well, almost...).

What type of file was it (which program did you use to create it) ? Did you look in Recycle bin ??

I'm using FrontPage 2003. Naw, it was a dumb mistake and I think it's gone for good. It's taking me more time to try and locate it so I might as well do it over - aww!

I thought I might of dumped into another folder but it's not there.

I need to get that software ($$$), because I did this once before and you'd think I'd learn!

Thanks babe! muah!

Sorry for not coming back sooner... spyware came out to play tonight ! It's NUTS on the forum !!

Did you look here : click on "Start", then on "My recent documents" or just "Documents" ? there'll be a list of recently visited documents there... maybe yours will be there ? (that's for XP). If you haven't rebooted your computer since the deletion, perhaps you could grab it in the TEMP folder ? Here's the path to follow :

C:\Documents and settings\"Your user name"\Local settings\TEMP <<< look in here...

BTW, the "Local settings" folder is hidden by default, so in order to see it, please do this :

See hidden files and folders

Ya never know...

you might be very lucky..

if you Delete the file in question you may find a copy of it in the _vti_cnf folder. FrontPage automatically synchronizes the files in this folder. However, a hiccup occurs occasionally, and FrontPage fails to sync a file and it leaves a copy of the file in this folder.

Mike... me thinks she spent all night redoing the document... :-(

That's a weird folder ??

lol .. yes it is.. nice that the wife is a web developer and she knows frontpage.. I dabble but am no expert, but do know that the folder is usually hidden and is syncs the 'live files' when you are working in frontpage. you will find it on the root of your web site.

Thanks guyz,

I spent so much time looking for it and got so frustrated... I knew you guyz deal mostly with spyware but I thought I would give it a try and see if you guyz knew how to retrieve files that "morons" delete by accident!

Finally I figured it would be easier just to redo the work - which I did - which took forever - and now I back in the game!

Plus, it felt good to vent!

Mark

It's always good to vent !!

Mikey just posted his brilliant find a little late for you...

Can we see it ??

Summer

When it's complete, you can see the three different sites I've created. I'm almost done with one, but there are some server issues I gotta deal with first.

I'm working on one that will support a "board" for engineers to post back and forth... a little tricky - It's alot like this site... Too bad I can't hook up with your webmaster. I'll figure it out, at least I hope I will.

I sent you mail... did ya get it?

Summer

Thanks Mikey,

I wasn't able to find it and the more and more I kept searching the more and more I got extremely frustrated... so... I re-entered the information and just about watched the sun come up.. yawn

The sad part is, it was probably right in front of me but I couldn't believe what I had done and "wigged" out... I'm a total moron.

Anyway, thanks again... both of you!

Well folks, my Eudoramail addy is flat-line...

Lycos are rebuilding their services (including Eudoramail), and it seems the servers are jammed. I've switched to Lycos, since that service is brand new, and running fine. Anyone out there with my old addy, better to scrap it !! and enjoy the new one (my head got bigger, what can I say...).

Oooo, I shouldn't be posting this here, right ?? Ahhh, spammers can come at me, I've got the filters up, way up !!

I heard "mouth to mouth" might bring it back to life!

I'm playing hookie today so I'll resend my email in just a little bit.

I gotta finish up this one section of the web and then I'll send it.

(my head got bigger, what can I say...)... say what? lol
