Computer freezing problems

Ok, here's another computer freezing problem, except i think i might have narrowed the causes down a lot already... so here's the story. Everything was fine until one day when i accidentally deleted our system.ini file. woops. so then i started up in safe mode and renamed a backup system file to system.ini, which seemed to solve the problem for the moment. but then once in a while our mouse started jumping across the page, and if we moved it too much, it would freeze. so we reinstalled windows, only to find the problem reoccuring. we now recently installed windows 2000 on the same pc and since then, or around that time, our mouse and keyboard have been freezes very frequently. in fact, i'm lucky to be writing this right now without having to restart. so, i believe the deletion of that system file has to do with it... i also have virus scans and zonealarm, i've reduced used disk space and fragmented the drive, and checked for mysterious files here and there... but i still think it has something to do with the deletion of that file. Can anyone put in a word here, or maybe help me out?

when you reinstalled did you delete the partition or did you just fdisk. I'm no expert or anything so take this with a grain of salt. i think that it's possible that some of the remaining reg entries stayed and might be causing the problem.

I agree with tony..if you want to reinstall, I reconmend deleting your partition and formating your hard drive. Otherwise old corrupted files will stay.

I have been having freezing problems too. I just recently purchased a GeForce 4 mx440 64mb DDR graphics card. It took a while for us to get it installed but when we figured out how to disable the onboard we finally got it installed. So after i finally got the geforce installed i was so relieved. Shortly after that i had my computer on and had barely started running Counter-Strike (an online game) and my computer froze. It's been doing that ever since. I'm not quite sure what's the problem and i was hoping that someone here could help me.

Yeah, Ive been getting the same problem as Marco, except I've got a geforce 2 card, every time I join a net game it lasts for about 5 seconds, then it hangs and shuts down into windows, leaving me to restart, it would be great if someone could help, Ive been dying to play counter strike for months!
