Problems With Norton System Works 2004

For reasons I'd rather not explain, I installed Norton System Works 2004 and then used the Add/Remove Programs to uninstall it. During the restart my PC froze up. I couldn't even get to my log in or desktop. Thanks to a friend, my PC is now back up and running. HOWEVER -

I attempted to reinstall System Works 2004 and kept error messages saying the installation process couldn't find a file known as instopts.dat. I managed to find that file on the Web and it is loaded into several locations on my PC. Installation still couldn't file, so it just stopped. I went to Norton's web site and found instructions telling people with this problem to delete specific regedit files. So I did what the instructions said and then restarted my PC and began the attempted installation for the hundredth time. Now I just get a message saying there has been an error. But it doesn't say what kind of error. So how am I supposed to fix this????? I give up!

I figure that even if Norton sent me a new System Works disk, the installation still probably won't work because I have errors/problems with my previous Systems Work still on my PC.

Anyone been through this before? I would greatly appreciate any help I can get with this.

Thanks much,

Eileen Price

or pay for norton help. Recommend xp backup tool off on OS-CD to save state and registry. Norton has worked fine unless you want to delete, then becomes problem to your computer.
