Ahh I gather you have used a program called PalTalk at some stage.
I had the same problem a little while ago.

I grabbed this info from http://www.bugtoaster.com

"The file pnetware.exe is part of an Internet communications suite from a company called PalTalk. They have a website at www.paltalk.com. Since this file has no version information or company information in the version info block, there is no way to know whether the current versions of the product may fix the problem."

"You can work around this problem by setting PalTalk to manual start mode and removing pnetaware.exe from the windows/startup directory. You may also uninstall the PalTalk product if you are no longer using it."

hope that is of some use mate

This thing called pnetaware.exe is extremely annoying. I downloaded this unfortunate program called paltalk, but after uninstalling it, it left behind this file. Every time I start my computer, there's a little prompt that comes up on the left-bottom corner that claims 'to be searching for this file" and then, after eating up all my time, it ends up with nothing. Then, I try to do that myself, but I can't find this damned pnetaware.exe anywhere in my PC's hard drive. Any help ??? Actually, I have experienced that it slows down my high-speed connection to 'worse than dial-up'. Anybody who can help me get hold of pnetaware.exe?

I'd appreciate,
Gedi.

I installed Paltalk recently and then removed it, leaving me with a startup message of the missing pnetaware font file. I have tried the solution suggested by Dario on this message board, but I do not have PalPnetware file/s. Should I download PalTalk again and try Dario's solution..or can someone else help? Thanks.

Dario's solution is ok but the name of the file is PalNetaware (not PalPnetware).
You don't have to download and/or install PalTalk again.

i have paltalk installed on my computer. i also had the pnetaware.exe program installed. i used the suggestion posted by simewriter (2nd post from the top). i am running win98. start/find/files or folders in the 'named' box type in 'pnetaware.exe' and it should locate the file if its still on your hard drive. i found it with no prob and deleted it. u have to make sure u set paltalk to start manually by right clicking on the icon located in the system tray and selecting 'manual'. i use a program called 'End It All'. it's a pretty neat program that will show you all the programs that are running on your machine. i would suggest that after installing this program (if you choose) to reboot your system. this way, all the programs that are going to start will do so upon rebooting, then use End It All to find out which ones they are. u can decided to just shut them down or u may decide to locate the ones u r not using and deleting them from your hard drive, thus preventing them from ever starting again.

I had the same problem as the rest of you after trying to nuke paltalk. I followed Dario's suggestion, and it worked perfectly...got rid of that annoying flashlight. The only thing is...it's not called exactly what Dario said, but just nuke the closest thing to it, and it will fix the mess. Paltalk needs a kick in the butt for that one!!!

Dario solution worked perfectly but the program name Paltalk is still in Control Panel's add/remove programs' list. When I try to remove it from there, I get the message like "An error occured while trying to remove Paltalk .."
Plesae inform me how should I remove it from this list as I don't wish to use such annoying software any more.
I'll be, indeed, thankful to you for the earliest and earnest attention.
Truly,
Moon.

In fact Bubi in the posts before gave the right answer but without precisions.
Confusion is coming by the fact your computer is asking for the command " pnetaware.exe " which is in fact " palnetaware.exe " .
This program is installed via another program called " MORPHEUS " which is suposed to be a web site to download music files. Inside Morpheus you find a secondary link to "Paltalk messenger" program , if you activate it it will download and install the Paltalk folder with the executable file " palnetaware.exe "
You absolutely don't need this "Paltalk Messenger" program unles you are interested to get into a forum to talk music.
Now I want to say that by my own experience, the program "Morpheus" is a nest of "Cookie's spywares", after installation of this program I became harassed by pop-ups spams adds and I discovered that all my system was corrupted by almost 20 cookies spywares: registred files, values files, as well as all a full folder called "Gato", I used that wonderful freeware called AdAware version 6.0 to get off that betrayal, you find this program at: www.lavasoftusa.com
I recommend to get that program as quickly as possible, only standart version of AdAware is a freeware .. Good luck

Deleted Paltalk and pnetaware
I loaded Paltalk yesterday and also deleted it as I was not able to get to certain things on the internet. I could get to the games but when I clicked on the game room I wanted all I get is a blank screen. That then freezes up everything else. I the have to ALT CNTL DEL to get out and come back to AOL. I deleted Paltalk and found the pnetaware and deleted it also. I have done a complete power down and still cannot get to areas I want. I am very frustrated and am sorry as heck I even fooled with Paltalk.

Does anyone have an idea on what I can do?

Thanks so much

Bob

I finally managed to get rid of it on OS windows 98

Ful process as follows:

Type run/msconfig in the start menu and press enter.

Click the Start up button and uncheck the box opposite pnetaware.exe

Click apply and at the "windows needs to shut down" prompt, click No shut down later.

in the control panel use add remove programmes to uninstall the file

Then do it again, this will give the prompt saying "file cannot be removed as it may have been previously dlelted, do you want to remove it from list?" CLick yes.

Go to C:/windows/Programmes. right click on paltalk folder and delete it

Go to Start/Settings/Taskbar& Start Menu/Start menu Programmes advanced. Double click on programmes icon, then double click on start up.

Right click on palnetaware and delete it.

This will stop the annoying searching prompt on start (thanx Dario).

At same place click on "disabled startup items" in menu on left hand side and delete the palnetaware icon there too.

Voila, Paltalk is history!!!

Thanks to Dario for info to DELETE the complete Paltalk file. I had the same problem as everyone here, tried to search and nothing came up, tried Dario's suggestion, voila, gone. I run Windows98. I found PalTalk to be an irritating chat site, good fonts, but when I logged on, I couldnt keep ahead of deleting the damn popup screens so its gone the way of the dodo. Its a crappy site if anyones interested.
