I'm not sure but i think if you download the most recent copy of directx it will solve your problem. I think the most recent is directx 8.1
I believe it's all dll files and such. Sorry I can't help more. Ask about it. It's free by the way.

I have exactly the same problem...Have windows 98 se, have a nvidia gforce 3 card...(actually a hercules 3d prophet 500 ti..but is the same I am led to believe ). I get the same error message when I boot up. I have the latest Nvidia drivers running...30.82. and the latest directx 8.1. it seems that the only solution is to wipe the NvXTInit from my start up menu. No real cure, I hope someone can help further.

I recently purchased unreal tournament 2003. After install it told me that my graphic drivers were out of date and would i like to install. I clicked yes and the error "nvdmcpl.dll unable to delete" occured and the installation was incomplete. Now my computer boots with the error "Error in C:\windows\system\NvCpl.dll. Missing Entry:NvStartup" the resolution of my desktop all reverts to 800x600 instead of 1024x768 which i prefer. My first assumption was that the drivers on unreal tournament 2003 were faulty so i went to Nvidia and downloaded the latest drivers from there. However i encountered exactly the same problem and the computer is still booting with the same errors.

From some other forums i've heard the problem originates because the old drivers need to be completely removed first. Can anyne shine any light on this.

thanks in advance,

David

Here is a message that i got from another forum...

:: I had the exact same problem as above and your fix worked for me. I don't know how to get it out of msconfig, but at least it does not pop up anymore and the driver seems to work fine.
THANKS!! dELL 4100 933PIII win98

: : : I am getting this same error message after installing 28.32 on Win Me. I am also very interested in resolving this error.

: : :
: : : : Having just installed latest Nvidia Detonator driver
: : : : 28.32. I get this error message: "Error in NVQTWK.dll
: : : : missing entry: NvXTInit" Can anyone help please?
: : : : I run windows ME"

: : I understand this is due to Nvidia removing an OC applet from their driver scheme. I had the error as well, I went onto msconfig and unchecked the enrty to execute the rundll command with the nvqtwk.cpl. The error goes away, but I have no idea how to remove the references save thru brute reg hack :( Nvidia is once again TOTALLY USELESS and non-responsive

For those who have posted re: NvCpl.dll, if you've been overclocking your nVidia Geforce card with the Coolbits program, or Detonator drivers, you may run into this problem.

Go here for the solution:
http://www.tweaktown.com/document.php?dType=guide&dId=17

For anyone interested, a *cpl.dll is a file used for settings listed in Control Panel, as a Dynamic Link Library. i.e. If it creates an icon in Control Panel (or maybe even systray?) then it uses this file.

If you are not using the Coolbits or Detonator drivers, a setting that you might play with is on the display settings: change them to NOT display in the systray, and reboot.

Good luck!

Gary hit it. Remove old drivers then instal newest version. It worked for me.

It makes sence as when I installed 41.09_win9x, I had a "cannot remove file" error. I don't rtemember what it was. I then had the missing entry: NvStartup error on startup.

apoc - what OS?You could uninstall the display
adapter card from device manager (after removing all nvidia drivers from add/remove programs).Restart the machine and start the newest driver download from Nvidia. This should solve your problem. If it is a 2000/XP machine ,point the wizard to the Nvidia driver install .exe.
*note*I would suggest checking device manager in safe mode to see if there are any "ghost" adapters ,if so remove all display adapters.

Happy hunting

The Great Solution : the probleme is coming from the Nvcpl.dll included in c:\windows\sytem\
First:when you install a new video driver of Nvidia, don't forget to desactivate your anti-virus before, and to reinstall the basic PCI VGA driver (always before any changing of video driver !!!) So, if you didn't respect these recommandations, a conflict appears, and the irritating message is raising at each restarting of Windows. My solution is simple :In second time : when you have installed the new video driver, you must copy the last & most recent Nvcpl.dll in a personal folder (1) / Then, you reinstall the PCI VGA basic video driver, when the anti-virus is desactivated; you restarted; (2) you reinstall the old Nvidia video driver of your install CD-Rom, (anti-virus desactivated always !)and you restarted Windows; (3) and Now : you copy your new and recent Nvcpl.dll at the place of the old Nvcpl.dll, in the C:\windows\system folder; (4) and you restarted Windows. (5) Also, you have again, your ancient driver with a recent Nvcpl.dll ... and the material conflict has disappeared ( marvellous, isn't it ? ). (6) Now, you must understand the origin of the problem : ? your Geforce card is too ancient for the new video driver ? have you forgot to desactive the anti-virus and to reinstall the basic PCI VGA video driver before installing the new video driver ? Is there a problem with the Nvcpl.dll which seems to control the multiple displays in the Advanced Panel Control of the diplay settings ? Is there a conflict with the different .dll files ? You can test all the hypothesis. Good luck at all from Toulouse in France, by a "frog eater" ( incredible : I have never eat the legs of these sympathic tiny animals and you ought to believe me and excuse my rotten english ... )

rundll
error in c:\windows\system\nvcpl.dll
missing entry: nvstartup

I had the same problem as above, here is what I did to fix mine:

1) made the mistake of not removing the original drivers via add/remove programs.
Also made the mistake of trying to reload the Nvidia drivers a second time BEFORE trying everything from 2) onwards. By not doing this, I then got an Nvidia setup error - 'setup was unable to delete the following file: nvdmcpl.dll. Install will be terminated'.
It didn't terminate the install.

2) created a folder to store 'stuff' in.

3) did a search for NVCPL.DLL's, I found 2 of them, I copied them to the 'stuff' folder, remember since they are named the same, you have to copy them one at a time, rename the first one, then copy the other one. note the SIZE of these, and which one was in the C:\Nvidia\Win9x folder, and which one is in the C\windows\system folder. I named mine NNvcpl.dll and Wnvcpl.dll.

4) disabled Norton A/V.

5) changed the screen resolution back
to 640x480.

6) rebooted.

7) removed Nvidia drivers via add/remove programs.

8) rebooted

9) went into the registry, exported a copy of it first, then I went to Hkey_local_Machine-software-microsoft-windows-current version-run-NvCplDaemon - "rundll32.exe c:\windows\system\nvcpl.dll,nvstartup"
You will need to expand the size of the right pane to see all of this key.
Then I just renamed this key to XNvCplDaemonX simply because I am scared to remove any keys.

10) rebooted

11) Assuming you have already downloaded the latest drivers from Nvidia, I reinstalled them - 41.09_win9x.exe

12) rebooted

13) still had the nvcpl in startup error msg.

14) looked to see which Nvcpl.dll was in c:\windows\system (by size), I renamed it to nvcpl.old, and I brought in the 'original' one that I had copied from the C\W\S folder from step 2 back into here, named it back to nvcpl.dll. 920kb.

15) rebooted

16) that didn't fix it

17) deleted that nvcpl.dll from C\W\S and copied in the other one, which was 4000kb.

18) rebooted.

19) somehow, in some way, everything worked, no error messages, and when I look in settings\control panel\system\hardware\display adapters, looked at driver details, I now have version 4.13.01.4109.

20) I looked in the registry, the one I commented out is still there, commented out, but there is an identical one there, absolutely identical to the one i commented out.
I changed nothing here, I left it alone.

21) rebooted again, for the heck of it.

22) note there will also be a new nvcpl.dll in the Nvidia folder that is created when you load the new Nvidia drivers. I did not do anything with that one.

23) still no problems, all is fine.

REALIZE the reason Nvidia (probably) won't help with this is because you have to go into the registry, and I don't know of any companies that encourage or 'authorize' folks to do this.
They don't want clueless folks totally killing their computers.

Just get used to which nvcpl.dll is in c:\w\s,
don't be afraid to swap them around, and you MUST go into the registry to comment out or remove that key I mentioned above.

Fred

02/14/03
Per the LAST paragraph I posted above, to be clear, you need to deal with that Registry key BEFORE you start redoing everything, do NOT remove it after you are done with everything, because when you redo everything, you will recreate a new, good key of the same exact name.
Fred

I, too, was having the rundll: nvcpl.dll startup problem after downloading the w9x driver update from nvidia.

After reading the various fixes here on this site, I sythesized them together and simply went into c:\nvidia\win9x and clipboard copied the "new" bigger nvcpl.dll; then went to c:\windows\system file and renamed the "old" smaller nvcpl.dll to nvcpl.old; then pasted the "new" nvcpl.dll to c:\windows\system. I then crossed my fingers and did a restart--with the desired effect of eliminating the startup error message and unleashing the power of my geforce card with no ill effects on any other programs.

As of this writing I have not deleted the old version and the duplicate.

Silvio

03/04/03
Simple..

Uninstall the current updated NVIDIA drivers, then re-install them in safe mode. The computer should recognize it at start-up all by itself. That worked for me, after days of trying.

Hi,

I'm having similar problems, only this damned thing won't let me back in. It says

Hi,

Well, I have to retract what I said about Hewlett Packard being pigs. They did come thru for me and got me an address. My problem was inability to get a blue screen and thus inability to access the restore stuff on the hard drive. In case you didn't know, all XP systems do NOT come with restore disks because it is right there on your computer. Trouble is, I couldn't get a blue screen to access it.

At any rate, HP has given me an address to write to to get the disk. In case you would like to have it...

HP Quick Restore Prgm
Attn: QR Order
P.O. Box 40728
Houston, Texas 77240

They sell the QR CD for $15 and $8 for this other disk that has all the latest drivers.
So, in total, tax and all, it comes to $24.73. That is, if you have gone beyond the 3 months warranty time for software.

With this disk, I am supposed to be able to get a NONdestructive restore, back to what it was before.

Thank God!!
That's it.

As yet another person who ran into this error, I tried the following, and it worked (in Win2k):

- Go into Control Panel, Add Remove Programs, and remove the nVidia software.

- Reboot

- Error is still coming up, but ignore it.

- Install a fresh copy of the new drivers from their website.

- Reboot

- Error should be gone.

Let me know (on here) if this works for you...or if it doesn't... =)

Error Message - ERROR LOADING|SYSTEM|NvCpl.dll

It seems that we've all suffered the same problem. By downloading new drivers from Nvidia (suggested by support at LucasArts - gee thanks guys)a perfectly reasonable system got f**d.

Click Start > Run > type msconfig and click OK. Click the startup tab. Check all your checked startup entries with this List. If it is not necessary for then to load at startup, uncheck them. Click apply/ok and reboot.

I ran Start/Run/MSconfig/Startup and deleted all the stuff which should not be there including all Nvidia/dll stuff

Hi Neil,
I have experienced the same error that you encountered.

error in: C\Windows\System\NvCpl.dll
Missing entry: NvStartup

I'm using Windows SE and I realized that this error started when I updated my video card driver w/c is NVIDIA. All I did is that I uninstall my current driver and restart my computer. And when my windows found new hardware for my video card, I installed the new driver and restart my computer again, and now there's no error coming up like yours.

I'm not getting an error message pop up, but I am having a problem that MAY be similar to what some of you are having. That is windows starting in 800x600 even though it was set to 1024x768 before I last shut it down. I have determined that the monitor HAS to be switched on BEFORE windows starts to load. If it's switched off at startup, windows reverts to 800x600, which I think may be somehow linked to the resolution on the TV-Out (interestingly it only happens on my GF4 Ti-4200 system, but not my GF2 MX system despite the same drivers & presence of TV-Out)

Hope this helps someone.

I've found a very simple solution to the problem most of u got:

error in: C\Windows\System\NvCpl.dll
Missing entry: NvStartup

I've had this problem myself. My solution is first uninstall ur currently installed nvidia drivers, then reboot. U'll notice the error is still there. Then copy the NvCpl.dll file from ur C:\Nvidia directory, which is still there after uninstall, to C:\Windows\System. Then reboot again and the error is gone!! Now u can install ur newest drivers again without any probs. For me, using Win98se, it worked! Good luck!

Ralf

Okay, I have this a problem with the NvCpl.dll file. My story is that some how, my scanner got unplugged so that something else could use the USB connector. I haven't needed to scan anything in a while so I hadn't bothered trying to hook it back up. Today, I needed to scan something. Couldn't find a USB cable, but had a parallel cable. I hooked that up. Got a "New Hardware Installed" message, put your scanner disk in. So I did. Then... I kept getting the "blue screen of death", and the computer would restart. I finally got it restarted and every thing worked okay for about 5 minutes, until I scanned my image and started to send it to PaintShop Pro. Then my computer got into a cycle of blue screen restart, blue screen restart, until I gave up and tried "Safe Mode". At that point, my computer hung up, so I unplugged the parallel cable and turned the computer off, unplugged everything, and went for a cold boot. At that point, everything booted up okay, but I got the error message saying:

ERROR LOADING C:\WINDOWS\System32\NvCpl.dll
A dynamic link library (DLL) initializatin routine failed.

My screen resolution is stuck at 800x600 and my color quality is stuck at 4 bit (only choice). I did a google search and this looks like the most likely place to find an answer.

Everything was working fine until I tried to re-hook my HP ScanJet 4400c scanner up. I run Windows XP Home Edition & KDS XtremeFLAT Monitor.

I really need to get this image scanned today, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Email if you prefer.

Thanks,
Alisa

Louise, you probably have the fix for this by now .. however, go to www.HP.com then look for downloads or drivers and click on the icon/hyperlink. Look for your own model of printer and simply download the driver from the relevant page. (It may take a while depending on PC speed etc etc. Any problems just e-mail me. Good luck!

NvQTwk and Rundll
The NvQTwk error is resulting from a problem loading an nVidia driver app. Most research seems to point to the fact that this error results from not uninstalling the previous nVidia drivers before installing the new one. To stop the error from popping up, you can go to Start>Run and type msconfig. Go to the start-up tab, and uncheck the box next to the RunDll entry that loads NvQTwk. I have done this, and I haven't gotten the error again. I am running WinXP Prof.

Note, if running WinXP home or prof, you may have to turn off system restore before following the above steps, and then turn it back on after you've rebooted and the error has stopped appearing. To turn off system restore, go to Start>Control Panel>System and then go to the System Restore tab.

Good luck!

nVidia Driver problem with Win XP
Hello,

I have been having the same problem with the nVidia 64mb GeForce card. Over the past month I had had 2-3device driver failure messages, but my pc continued to work fine. I installed the latest nvidia drivers last week. Then 3 days ago my PC froze while I was in a program. I rebooted and while Win XP (prof Ed) was loading the screen would freeze. I powered down and rebooted. I was brought into the Advanced Windows Setup screen (which gave you the options to reboot in 10 different modes), but my keyboard and mouse would not function. They would work whenmy PC was loading the bios, but once the O/S began loading they would freeze. I then used an emergency boot disk to start up but couldn't get to my C drive, since it said there was an invalid volume on drive C. I thought I had lost everything, but the next time I rebooted and was taken the advance startup screen,my keyboard and mouse worked. I rebooted into Safe mode and then received the first error message that my Win/Sys32/nvcpl.dll file could not be loaded since an initialization routine failed.

After uninstalling the nVidia drivers, I can only boot into Safe Mode, but cannot boot normally. Each time I boot normally I receive I can logon to Win XP and then get a blue screen (where Windows shuts down). I get the following error message: STOP: 0x008E (ox005,0x8057E271,0xF6FFCC60,0x00). Microsoft's site said this message related to a RAM problem when XP loads. They suggest to remove some RAM and reboot.

Is this "RAM" problem just the same problem when XP tries to load the nividia drivers? After unstalling the nvidia drivers, do I need to install the basic VGA drivers. Where do I do this??

After loading the vga drivers, do I then reinstall the new nvidia drivers using the instructions from the past postings?

Thanks for any help.

Nvidia GeForce2
I'm not a computer expert so any help will have to be in idiot-speak please.

I'm running Windows 98 second edition, with a Nvidia GeForce2 card. On start up my screen is in 800 x 600 mode and I can't alter it - display in control panel tells me my default printer is disabled but it isn't. My computer identifies a plug and play monitor and a default monitor both running with the Nividia graphics - I only have one monitor.

I've tried uninstalling the Nividia drivers and re-installing them - that got rid of the error message - but still can't alter the screen and most importantly still can't run The Sims - my children are going crazy!! Please can someone help?

Mark

01/28/04
Hi Gainor. I had that "2 monitor" thing from my nVidia card, after I came back from the shop (the tech had plugged his monitor, so Windows kept it's configuration - so I had two monitors showing). I got rid of it by "deleting it". Your situation is slightly different ; I'm not sure which monitor your system is using (should be "default"). Try this : go to Device Manager (where you can see both monitors), click once on the "Plug and Play" monitor to highlight it, then click the "Refresh" button which should be near the bottom of the window. See if the monitor's name has changed into something else (like "Sony75834...). If this happens, post back and I'll see if we can delete the second one.
Gaynor
Gaynor_75@hotmail.com
01/29/04
Thanks Mark, tried the device manager thing but nothing at all happened - no changes at all. In control panel/display it keeps jumping back to the plug & play monitor even though I select and apply the default monitor when I go back in its back on p & p! I've tried deleting the second monitor via device manager but it just redetects it when I switch on next time. I've even tried deleting both and all nVidia drivers and restarting trying to load the nVidia drivers and the monitor during the same startup - still won't work - still can't adjust my screen size - or play the sims!

The Sims thing could be a seperate issue - it starts to load then drops back to the desktop. Anybody know how to solve that one?

Mark

01/29/04
Hey Gainor. Sorry to hear that. I'm out of my league on this one now... The only way that I can see why you have a second monitor, is that you have a "TV OUT" enabled card, with something plugged into that jack (on your card). Is there a wire hooked up that shouldn't be? Someone else, I hope, will stop by to help.
Mark

01/29/04
Hey again Gaynor (sorry for the spelling before...). I've got one more thing you can try : Uninstall all nVidia software from Add/Remove (Control Panel). Reboot when asked. When everything is uninstalled, completely shut down the computer and start it again (this is better than "Restart" when removing big programs...). If Windows ever starts looking for display drivers, prompting you to insert a CD, IGNORE IT! Next step, go to Windows Update and their should be a graphics card driver available for download (look under "Drivers" to the left). Download it. This may be the "right" driver for your box.

If this doesn't cure the problem, you may need to visit nVidia's web site and look for their latest driver package.
