Please Help.
Hi, I bought a Liton DVD.ROM Drive with ATAPI/E-IDE Interface 16X.
As a CD seems to work
fine. Playing DVD's , will not play, comes up with a
message .
"Error Code f4d41436"
" Detailed. This copy protected disc cannot be played
when the TV out function is enable."
I cannot find a TV function anywhere.
My Sys. W98se, with a 350 Pentum.
The software I'm using is what came in the box "Cyberlink PowerDVD"

Could you please send me some information how to get it
working.

I had exactly the same problem. I eventualy discovered that the liton web site has an update of PowerDVD3.0 which seems to have solved the problem.
http://www.liteonit.com.tw/powerdvd3/PWRDVD30.zip

This is a 7.5 MB download and when you install you need to use the CD Key from the CD that came in your box.

Hope this helps

It's got something to to with your videocard drivers. With nVidia Detonator 41.09 Power DVD doesn't work but Detonator 40.72 with WHQL-certificate does (on my W2K system).

It seems that the problem comes from the DVD anticopy system called "Macrovision"

I had the same error message too, but I was able to get AsusDVD (which is just a bundled version of PowerDVD) to work with the nVidia 41.09 drivers.

The trick is to HACK YOUR REGISTRY. Warning, this could damage your system, so do this at your OWN RISK!

Go to the key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\NVTweak\DISPLAY1\DisplayModes
and back it up first (use the export function in regedit). Then, simply delete the two keys:
TV
TV0
and then reboot.

After I rebooted, the DVD software worked flawlessly. Unfortunately, with this hack, you probably won't be able to do any TV out without restoring the two registry keys first.

Hi everybody this problem with the TV out is not a problem
Of your software and is not the problem of you DVD player
It is the problem from the DVD you are trying to play because there is a copy protection on it some DVD are not protected (Spiderman) they will play on a TV screen
I have the same problem but the only way you will play your DVD on a TV screen is to rip the DVD to divx en rip the copy protection then you are able to write it to a new DVD disc or hard disk or cdr

Ps. Its now to you so find out how to do this because I must trying it my self to

Wow, it's not just me then. Agreed.. it's the drivers.. I have tried 5 different dvd software programs and 2 different dvd players..nothing will work except sound and when I close them out, I briefly see a flash of the movie. Having said that, 40.72 does work fine and I will go back if I have to.. but we shouldn't have too! I will try registry hack and such tonight. I guess I will try to email NVIDIA and see if their is a solution.

I had same problem as all you guys with F4D41436
error code. I'm running 1.3 ghz with 1 mb mem
and Windows XP. I tried loading 41.09 drivers
from Nvidia (advised by the Tech Support of my
PC supplier) without success. The download of
PowerDVD from http://www.liteon.ab.pl/down/pwrdvd30.zip
worked for me. I was prompted for the CD code
and then I received a notification that "DMA"
had been turned on for all drives.
Thanks Marcus for the info regarding
http://www.dvdidle.com/ ("DVD Region Free" - This is excellent as I have many region 1 and
2 discs.

03/13/03
It is a driver problem, with 41.09 and later. 40.72 work fine. It appears to be affecting mostly GeForce2 cards. For the time being, the only solution I've been able to find is to revert to 40.72.

Also, other DVD players (e.g. WinDVD) don't work, so I guess 41.09 somehow messes with the Macrovision protection scheme

LoneStar

03/16/03
Guys, the DVD Region-Free works. So if you're not in the mood to lower your drivers version, and you have a few bucks to spend, go for it.
Milkdud

03/16/03
Seems it might also have something to do with the DirectX version.
I had problems under the 41.09 drivers, reverted to the 41.03, still wouldn't work.
Then I installed DX8.1 (over DX7)and VIOLA!

From nvidia:

Thank you for your email. The 41.09 display drivers introduced more stringent checks for Macrovision complaince to comply with the latest Macrovision specs. Some manufacturers who use NVIDIA graphic chips used TV encoders which do not support Macrovision (the BT868 and Conexant CX25870). This causes these graphic cards to fail Macrovision and thus not allow the playback of DVD's with the 41.09 drivers.

I didn't want to go back to the 40.72 drivers, but it did solve the problem. I guess I'll have to look into the DVD Region-Free software. I don't want to keep the old drivers forever.

I checked my TV encoder version using an app called TVTool sure enough my card uses the BT868 TV encoder. Looks like an excuse to upgrade my video card. Thanks for the info Rowdy.

DVD VIDEO - NVIDIA DRIVERS - MACROVISION
PROBLEM :
With my DVD Video Player and latest Nvidia drivers 43.45, in fact since 41.09, when I want to play a dvd video : Error Code F4D41436 ... etc.
SOLUTION :
Install Remote Selector (www.remoteselector.com)and disable Macrovision then start player.
And now all works fine. This program is not a freeware (20 €)

i have the same issue.
The problem is that NVidia was pressured into this. The problem is NOT MACROVISION!!! Nvidia drivers now DISABLE DVD playback of all copy protected Discs. This is the real issue. I had TV Tool because Nvidia's tv out software, no surprise, is garbage and doesn't work. But that TV Tool removes Macrovision, yet doesn't work for the playback. Remote Selector or DVD Idle are the only solutions, costing $20.00 each. Nvidia basically made the drivers where it queries the Card whether it has Macrovision built in. Mine (BT868) does not, so it then locks out copy protected DVDs.

Ok that is really working i had the same problem.

My SOLUTION:

Install the newest Detonator Driver www.nvidia.com driver: 43.45
and install the newest version of direct x i think its 9a or something.
now u have to get "Remote Selector"
just search for remove selector @ kazaa or another file sharing program.
i found it on kazaa. the cd key crack was included.
then u just have to disabled macrovision.
thats all !
it really works !!

if u have questions mail me!

You should all just downgrade your powerdvd version to V2.0, trust me, i just did and it fixed the problem plus it lets you change the region of your dvd rom as many times as you like. You can prolly pick up a copy of it for real cheap somewhere, or dare i say it download it off kazaa...but i never told you that ;)

Does 2.0 even have 5.1 surround? That's gotta be an old version.

I'm getting this same error, and am really pissed about how to solve it. Trying the Omega drivers next. None of the above have worked for me. It's POwerDVD that's doing it as WinDVD and NVDVD both work fine. Though I dislike both of those for other reasons.

Hi everybody! My Lord of the Rings Extended Edition DVD plays fine. However, when I tried to play The Matrix or Contact, I also received the error message in PowerDVD, WinDVD, and NVDVD. The Matrix worked in WinDVD 2000, but I prefer using the newest version. After searching the web, I came across a full version of Remote Selector. That allowed WinDVD to play any movie, but didn't work for PowerDVD. Thanks for the suggestions guys! I don't know if upgrading the firmware in my DVD drive would do any good, but I might try it. :-)

Hi Everybody (especially Bit Basher)
I tried the method to hack the registery

It was this :

Unfortunately, it DOESN't RUN :(
I deleted the 2 keys without save it

Could you make a copy/paste in your registery and post it here ?

Thanks a lot :))

I went to http://player.interactual.com/?code=PU and downloaded interactual player and I can at least watch any of the dvds with this player when I can't watch them through power dvd due to the protection copy on the dvd. In shor, if you receive error code F4D41436, go to the above url and download interactual player. It isn't the best and it sometimes freezes, but it's better than not being able to watch at all. Oh, and also, you will have to change your screen resolution to 16 bit - cannot use interactual player in 32 bit(true color). Hope this helps everyone..

I have a GeForce 4 Ti 4200. I emailed nVidia and their reply was...

The 41.09 and future drivers have more stringent checks in the driver to comply with the latest Macrovision requirements. If the TV encoder does not support Macrovision, you will get the "Macrovision Distribution Failed" error message or a similar message depending on which DVD software player you are using. The BT868 and Conexant CX25870 TV encoders do not support Macrovision. If your graphics card is equipped with one of these TV encoders, then it will not support DVD playback with our 41.09 drivers and above, including the latest 44.03 drivers. If you wish to playback DVD movies, you will need to install the 40.72 drivers or below.

With reference to the tv out enable error code problem, I managed to solve this problem with my GeForce3 Ti500 in an XP operating system. I went to the device manage and had Microsoft automatically install a driver update. After the system rebooted (took about a minute), I was informed that the driver (don't know which drive, the new or old one) caused system instability. I clicked "OK," and checked the driver version that was now in the system. It was an nVidia 2.9.5.8 driver installed, dated back to 2001. Then I tried the PowerDVD 4.0 player and it now works fine.
