when i get online sometimes i get this popup that says it has detected a spyware program on my computer..should i assume this is a legit thing or ignore?

Ignore it.
They're trying to sell you something.
Use Spybot search and destroy or ad-Aware to check and remove spyware. Both are free programs and remain tops in field.
If you haven't requested a scan, ignore them all.
Hint make sure you keep activex disabled , use the google toolbar to prevent popups. or just use Firebird for surfing the net. Safer and less nuisances like ads, popups, unwanted downloads.
