When I start my computer, I suddenly have a panel appear with the header C:\WINDOWS\System32
This has suddenly started happening for no apparent reason. The panel contains hundreds of folders, with odd names, that appear to be something to do with my machine's inner workings.
I can clear it down every time by clicking on the X in the top right corner, but I don't want it to appear every time I start the machine.
Can one of you clever people please advise as to how I can disable this from apearing at startup?
Many thanks,
David

david, what version of windows are you using? We have WinXP.
Have you checked msconfig to see if something is starting up that should not be starting up? mirse@aol.com

Thank-you, mirse.
I am using Xp Home Edition.
Someone suggested that I use regedit, then HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS NT\CURRENTVERSION\WINLogoN
Then change USERINIT from C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\USERINIT.EXE,C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\USERINIT.EXE TO C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\USERINIT.EXE
When I went through all of this, I saw that USERINIT was already at the later setting.
This stuff is like rocket science to me!
Any further advice will be very gratefully accepted!
Thanks again,
David

I am having the exact same problem as David. When I used misconfig, there were several processes that mentioned system 32 so I wasn't sure which one to disable. Any help would be appreciated. thanx

Here is a URL that should help. If you do not have extensive experience with computers, I would not recommend editing the registry. One mistake could cause serious problems.
