I do not know how to find the firewall on my Windows XP it is preventing me from installing and downloading things. I need to find it and check it off or so I'm told thank you all in advance.

go to control panel and right click network connections, choose open. Right click local area connection and choose properties there is a check box there for firewall.
The default setting for xp is to have the firewall box unchecked so this may not be your problem.

I did but there is no check box for firewall in the properties of the local area connection. Here are the check boxes though:
Client for Microsoft Networks
File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks
QoS Packet Scheduler
Internet Protocol(TCP/IP)
But no firewall option. All these options are checked by the way.

After right clicking on local connection (your internet service supplier) icon, click on properties, and then click on advanced. The firewall is there. If you wish to use it put a check there, if not leave (or take) the check out.

There is no advanced part to the local connection properties, just "General" and "Authentifaction."
