I can't view Thumbnails anymore! I need this!!

Help!!! I have too many computer experts as friends and someone has done something to my settings that has caused me not to be able to open my pictures or my documents and view the contents of that document as a thumbnail. I have went through my settings, I have tried changing the program used to open the files, checked my file extensions, and looked in my folder options. I don't see anything that might cause them not to be viewed as thumbnails.
I am running Windows 2000 with a Pentium II processor and 128 m RAM.

i never had 2000 but with the folder open click 'view' and select thumbnails.
