My computer has been having problems accessing google, yahoo, the search pages of ebay (not the main page--just can't search). I have tried everything--run virus checks for trojan viruses (something about qhost that someone at my isp suggested I had). Once or twice the websites came back for a day and then went away (the last time was after a "fatal exception error"). Anyway, in a desperate attempt to fix it, I downloaded this winsock2fix that was suggested on a site, hit a couple of keys and nothing worked on the internet. I loaded Windows 98 again, but I still can't open my documents. Have I lost them for good? By the way, google, etc., still won't work.

I have a local isp. I run Windows 98. The computer is an older one--not a name brand. It does say it has a Pentium III processor and a Gigabyte mainboard. Sorry I am so illiterate--hope that is what you were asking.

Oh, and I do have dial up. My main concern now is if there is any way to recover the corrupted documents. Now, if I try to open a document, it asks what program to use to open it and seems scrambled if I do open anything.
