You know it'd be helpful if you posted your operating system.

But meanwhile search your computer for a Hosts file. open with notepad (uncheck always use this)
See whats inside.

10/28/03
No I don't use messaging. It may be a single problem or several.
The first thing is to try to get your search engines back. Usually this occurs because entries have been made in Hosts. You don't require an Internet connection. What I meant was to use start, then find . see if this file is somewhere on your system. If it is open it up and see whats in it. You may see a list of search engines in it.
These are the ones that are redirected or blocked. You can delete those entries.
Alternatively download and run CW-shredder. you can get it here:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/cwschronicles.html
See if you can get to www.google.lt (small L)
That one is pretty obscure and you may be able to use it.
That's the first steps.
There are others.
Surfy!

10/28/03
nope didnt work... when u tell me go to find...if i have xp it will be search. But if that is wat u r talking about... but search thing wont come up. It is being blocked and will not show.
Surfy

10/28/03
I think i found the hosts server thing but it doesn't say anything about blocked.. All it says is examples and a few ips at the bottom
Surfy

10/28/03
I found two server host... the first ones title is "hosts" and other is "Imhost"
Surfy

10/28/03
What are the other steps?
snowman

10/28/03
Good, let's see whats inside them.
Right click on them, open with and then a window will open.
Uncheck always use this application scroll to and select notepad to open it.
If you see a list of search engines, delete them in notepad and save changes.
If its just a sample from microsoft we'll try something else.
snowman

10/28/03
Ok if they're just samples.
Next you can try to flush the dns cache. that's
where windows stores frquently accessed pages, Possible it's corrupted. You must do this in command line mode. copy this down , cause you won't have access to it in command line.

Start, run, type cmd press ok
Type ipconfig /flushdns press enter

to get out of command line type exit press enter
to get help type /? press enter

Link to microsoft page:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/prodtechnol/winxppro/proddocs/ipconfig.asp

if that doesn't work I'll have to punt you to another forum.

Do you have EVIL Kazaa?
I can't let snowman suffer any longer.

Get SpyBot and or Ad-Aware at top of this page.
If you can't get there, manual instructions
to remove New.Net (your problem).

How can I fully uninstall the New.net plug-in?
To uninstall the application, please follow the steps below:

1. Click on Start.
2. Select Settings.
3. Click on Control Panel.
4. Double-click on the Add/Remove Programs icon.
5. Select the New.net Application.
6. Click on the Add/Remove button.
7. Once the program has uninstalled, click on the OK button.

After completing all of these steps, please reboot the computer. This will have removed the New.net application from your system.
The above steps will fully remove the New.net plug-in. However, the Windows operating system will retain a record that the New.net plug-in previously had been installed on your computer in "C:\Windows\Downloaded Program Files." This file is harmless, but can be removed by following the steps below:

1. Click on Tools.
2. Click on Internet Options.
3. Under the General tab, click on the Settings button.
4. Within the Settings window, click on the View Objects button.
5. Within the Downloaded Program Files window, locate and delete Tldctl2c Class.
6. Close the Downloaded Program Files window.
7. Click on the OK button within the Settings window.
8. Click on the OK button within the Internet Options window.
9. Close Internet Explorer.

Thanks abnormal. I was hoping you'd drop by.

I was thinking he might have uninstalled that stinking newdotnet without using add remove And we know what can happen then. But I can't really guide him thru an lspfix, or a Hijack this log to see if he needs it. And I think that may be the next step.
Anyways I've done what I could here. It's time to punt. and I got to sleep. These Hijackings are growing like a weed.

there's a thread here at newbie org called can't view web pages. Last reply 19 oct mostly the same dns problem. you might want to look at it.
Fellow called morace posted this:
Try Going Here
http://cexx.org/lspfix.htm

Small program that Fixes Winsock errors, Should solve the problem, fits on a floppy disk.

Also try downloading "Spybot-Search and Destroy", when removing adverts and spyware. Has a Fix to safely remove commonName without this problem occuring.

Hope this helps..

04/29/03 In update to my last posting i've been having some trouble lately with spyware removal even using spybot, the same old error(WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SHDOCLC.DLL/dnserror.htm)

But managed to solve the problem with the winsock error by using these

For WinXP
http://members.shaw.ca/techcd/WinsockXPFix.exe

For Win98, WinMe
http://www.bu.edu/pcsc/internetaccess/winsock2fix.html

Both these programs solved the problem straightaway, they replace the corrupted winsock values, I promise you that they both work with no hassle, have tried both!

Problem is its a pretty generic error code.
Could be your network settings,(you have to check with your isp) Could be your cache settings( clear history, temporary internet files. reboot to clear dns )
or it could mean removing newdotnet has corrupted the winsock. ( Morace's fix)
But now I'm out of ideas, and have to get back to work.

Sounds like a similar problem already discussed on the "CANT VIEW WEB PAGES" thread, somene called SusiQusi had a similar problems with no access to certain search sites..here's her suggestion to getting it to work.

"Yahoo I got it..did a few searches and found a proggie called..
http://www.lurkhere.com/~nicefiles/ and downloaded Hijack this..read the instructions on http://hjt.wizardsofwebsites.com/.. and found over 101 Hijacked search engines that I fixed and yipee I gots my search engines back.."

Have you tried doing this already?

Hey Guys
I go to speed on your mails. I had a similar shdoclc.dll erroer. This is what cured it :

1) Univ of Boston Newtorking Utils Cleaner
http://www.bu.edu/pcsc/internetaccess/winsock2fix.html

2)Checked Host files for trash emails.

3)When I restarted , system was w/out any ntwrk components, in that case either the program prompts (pt 1) you OR system itself prompts you for all those ntwrk components.

4)Insert Win98 cd rom ---> Run SFC and get 'em all.

5)Ipconfig /release_all & then renew_all

That did it. I had Kazaa, probably its that Kazaa curse !!!
If you plan on keeping Kazaa , then make sure you invest $$$ o n effective spybuster s/w

Uh oh it has nothing to do with Internet Explorer. Windows problem here. A system recovery will definitely fix it. I did anyway to keep a clean system. But I suggest removing windows components like network adapters and reinstalling them again. Might sort the DNS, no harm in trying. Also I've heard of people using DNS server software which speeds browsing by resolving domains to IP with its own hosts file. I don't know if it relies on Windows resolving domains but it might not, could be a seperate thing altogether...A temporary solution maybe to get connected? Go to your friends house and get it.

Like I said its nothing to do with Internet Explorer. Windows is unable to resolve dns. I had this problem but it may be extreme to reinstall windows. Did you try removing Windows network adapters like TCP/IP etc and reinstalling them again. That might install the dns dlls if they're corrupted.

scdoclc.dll I don't know if that file is version specific to Windows. Try getting that file off another computer and replace it.

This was on a Win 98 SE system, with IE6 being
I had tried many things but this worked

You will need access to a pc with intenet access and a CD burner)
Download ieeradicator, and run, (not sure why IE was there or if I had reloaded - I do know running ieeradicator and loading ie6 again didnt work)
then in the run command browse to the c:\progaram files\internet explorer\setup\setup.exe and add /g "C:\windows\ie uninstall log.txt" (this was thanks to Amrow Hijazi) then scan for altered files under accessories, system tools, system file checker, tools, and I replaced the files with the ones on a 98 CD (specifically setupx.dll may have been nothing)

Then I installed Spybot and the update and clear all the gremlins out and then reloaded IE6

Will need to reboot a few times

Hopefully this works for you as it did for me

God Bless

same error, same attempts to fix, totally different result!!!

paypal appears to have changed to require 128-bit encryption. No notice is placed anywhere online that I can find.

After first upgrading to ie6 from ie5.5 (Win2K)
and running Spybot-S&D and checking hosts etc.etc.etc.

I saw encryption was still at 56-bit.
I telnetted to www.paypal.com port 80
"GET /" saw that the page was being delivered.

convinced it was not a DNS error (NOTE:: Microsoft sucks!!! - go to linux or mac.)

dug around until I found the windows encryption pack - http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/downloads/recommended/encryption/default.asp
OR for earlier versions...
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/recommended/128bit/

if this is not you, search for the 128-bit pack for your OS rev.

installed it, restarted, and bingo.

happy happy.
