Laptop performance real sloow ..

Over this weekend my Windows 2000 laptop got really slooow. Connections like to the internet and web sites really drag and take much longer than usual. Programs seems to really hesitate before loading, like for minutes verses seconds.

I know that this is not much to go on but where do I start investigating my problem? How do you go about diagnosing a problem like this?

I'd check to see what processes are running.
Use ctrl-alt-del. Because it may be a worm or trojan that's eating up your connection and CPU
I'd also would run a virus scan. If you don't have one do it online. Here's one site:

Secondly I'd check for spyware. They'll eat up banwidth. Use adaware or spybot search and destroy.
Thirdly general maintenance, go to tools internet options and clear out all the accumalated gunk.
Use system tools and perform maintenance and defrag.
