Hey, I have a problem. My girlfriends computer was infected with a W32 virus I think, not really sure what type. She is running Windows ME and when she ran norton antivirus it seemed to make things worse. She deleted a reg file, and now when she goes to click on any .exe files, it tells her that Window's can not find the path or something and that this user doesn't have access to this file. I'm not sure what's going on, anyone have any clue?

another thing is that we tried going to start, settings, control panel and then system to disable the system recovery thing but she can't even open the System option, and she also doesn't have access to the properties of her My Computer.

go to start/run and type sfc to have it check for deleted or currupt files. Have your installation disc handy.
Reboot and tap F8 repeatedly to get option of starting in safe mode. When in safe mode run scan disc and defrag. Do an update on norton and run a virus check. Any spyware installed ie Kazaa?

C:\windows\access.exe
I am running windows 98 with Sophs Anti Virus software. It keeps finding a virus called dial/pollux-a detected C:\window\access.exe. I can’t remove or delete it as it says I haven’t got administration rights. Any thoughts

Barrie: the "virus" is a premium rate dialer.
Not all anti viruses detect them, and there's not much info on the sophos site.
Download, update and run spybot search and destroy. Read instructions first. They target diallers. Available here:
http://www.safer-networking.org/
See if that works.
Don't know about admin rights in 98: maybe under network properties/ access control?
