Whenever I try to upgrade my computer with critical updates I get the follwing messages
Your current security settings prohibit running Active X controls on this page.
I reduce my security settings to low but it does not make a difference.
Also I get a security warning advising that the authenticode certificates have not been signed.
Can anyone help? I have looked on microsoft newsgroups and there is nothing basic that I can understand as a remedy.
Thanks

Firstly never set your security to low.
In IE go to tools/internet option/security tab.
Click internet and set this to at least medium high,
Click trusted sites and set this to low
each icon at the top has its own setting but internet and local intranet should be at least medium

I am still getting the active X message.

I also tried to update through a link on the central command.com antivirus newsletter but the following message appeared.

The WINDOWSSERVER2003-KB828750-IA64-ENU(1).EXE file is linked to missing export NTDLL:NtShutdownSystem.

press start/run type sfc select automatically fix errors. have your windows cd handy if it finds currupt /missing system files.
Open int options and in security select custom for each icon the first options are for active x mine are 1-prompt, 2 disable 3 D 4 Enable and 5 enable for all but trusted sites where they are enable, prompt prompt enable and enable.
Update direct x from microsoft.
I found a program 'Belarc advisor' is very usefull in summarising a system and indicating if a hot fix or update is needed or is missing etc give it a try.
Are you able to update from microsoft yet?
